Kim Ga Eun has been out of the picture since she lost in Hong Kong. She can't catch Michelle Li even if she wins the title in Gwangju. Sung Ji Hyun can catch Li by winning Gwangju but that point will likely be moot since Busanan can clinch by merely showing up for a match in Gwangju. If Zhang Beiwen wins Hong Kong, Busanan will need at least one win in Gwangju. As minions pointed out, Gwangju is the last tournament. Syed Modi will actually count toward the 2020 WTF qualification.according to the most recent updated korea m&q busanan, sung ji hyun & kim ga eun are within striking distance of her.
Thanks for your explanation. Weird that a tournament before guangzhou is not counted towards it. Still cannot understand why li skipped that Korean tournament. Guess it means Zhang beiwan will fight really hard to win cyf. And also the final. I dunno. I think for zbw she must have thought she has no chance of making it until she did unbelievably well in this tournamentKim Ga Eun has been out of the picture since she lost in Hong Kong. you're right, it's only 7,000 pts for the win. i thought it was 9,000. here's the pt. distribution for korea, wt300:Kim Ga Eun has been out of the picture since she lost in Hong Kong. Well, you gotta ask her for sure.Being an independent player like her is difficult. She has to consider about the cost as well.
There are 3 players left to fight for the last spot. Only BO and SJH will participate in Korea Masters. The race in this category is pretty much over since BO can just play there and both ML and SJH got eliminated as a result.
Yeah, ML will have give the top players much challenge than BO. No offense to BO, but she doesn't even reach SF in nearly every tournaments she has participated this year. The only time she actually got past SF was when she reached Final in Thailand Masters at the beginning of the year.Feel bad for Michelle if she will be eliminated like this. She can put up a good fight against other player. She even can defeat RI, NO and HBJ. I doubt that BO can win a single set against other players at WTF.
This also reminds me of a Taiwanese WD (Hsu YC/Wu TY iirc) years ago at Dubai SSF. They lost constantly at R1 and still could qualified. I was like wtf... However, this year it's not that bad ...

I hope that the WD pairs who have confirmed their spots can play in WTF. Jongkolphan/Rawinda have withdrawn from both FCO and HKO. Hope they can be healthy by the time of WTF. If they withdraw, the TPE pair, Hsu/Hu, will be the one to replace them. If that's the case, it will be a repeat of 2017 SSF. Lol.
Feels pretty weird when almost all the top players were playing in both hk and Korea while she did not.Based on the post by Michelle Li's coach on Weibo (Kan Chao Yu)
They did not know that WTF would be counted until Korean Master, because based on the ranking date listed on the website, they thought only counted until Fuzhou Open.
He also complained that BWF had secretly changed the date without being publicly announced, but instead sent a letter to each country's badminton committee, where they did not receive information about this
Poor Michelle Li

bwf continues to out bwf themselves...Wow, ridiculous. That's a huge failure by BWF and Badminton Canada to not properly communicate the change to players.
bwf continues to out bwf themselves...![]()
I think another reason for Michelle's case is that she's an independent player (cmiiw), together with Beiwen Zhang, thus travelling expenses need to be considered.Considering that there is no end to these type of blunders, players and their national associations should know better than to take any chances. Does entering a player's name for a tournament cost the national badminton association any money? What about removing a name?
