Thank you for the pictures CanuckBur. What a lovely venue, even if not intended for Baddy. Here's hoping all Vancouver BC'ers had a lovely time at the event (and afterwards for those of you Sichuan fire-eaters)
Today's result: Taufik def Joachim 21-17,16-21,21-12 Joachim def Andre 23-21,21-14 Tomorrow's line up: Taufik vs Joachim Andre vs Andrew Dabeka

A fun and long day today. We had several BC members milling together - hauge, winex west canada, Matt, kklam (& son), PeteLSD, plus others including wwcbro, Richard (RichmondPro boss) and more. I see Matt has posted up some of today's pics already - thanks. I will get to them soon. Also thanks to CanuckBur for his contributions.
Broadcast?? ..i notice in the 4th pic down, post #160, there's a tv camera and a cameraman standing on one of those mounted boom lifts/platforms. Are they recording/broadcasting this event as well? Or is that a private camera?? ..yeah, we want to see pics of BC's madbulance driver and the other BCers!.. Where're wood_22_chuck and his bro??.. *Thanks for sharing your pics, Matt..Glad you made it to see the event.
You r welcome. You need shock absorbers to play at the venue. The place was open for drop-ins after the 2pm sessions today. I played for about one hour at the outer ring (concrete floor) and 1/2 hour in the inner ring (wooden floor). The wooden floor is very shiny and hard. It reflects a lot of light. Plus, there are a lot of lights coming from the huge windows. Then, there are air blowing across the center ring. Yumo, cleartwo, and richmond pro are still the best.
Fairchild Media group is the main sponsor of the event and that's their TV camera. They will edit the matches and broadcast at a later date.
According to the schedule, 3pm Sunday. Thanks to Hauge for being so generous with the tickets. The lighting at the venue is very bad for the players and it was bright for the player facing south (roughly where Matt, myself and KKLam were sitting). Joachim was interviewed by Fairchild after the game and he was complaining about the lighting. The flooring was "hard" on the knees. The sessions was fun. After the TH/JP event, they switched over to table tennis and had two local retired athletes (Cliff Ronning - NHL and Lui Passaglia - CFL) play a game of TT against each other before the real professionals duel it out. Madbad, KKLam, Hauge and myself spent the time chatting in the VIP lounge waiting for the 7pm session. Unfortunately I was not able to stay but PeteLSD joined the group.
It's nice to meet Hauge and many thanks to him for offering us the VIP passes. He even took us to the locker room and introduced Taufik and Andre to us. We were having fun chatting, getting autograph and taking pictures with Taufik, Joachim and Andre. This is a once in a life time opportunity to have players of such calibre playing in Vancouver as badminton is not very popular here (I mean in the main stream society). Thanks again Hauge and thanks to Madbad, Matt and Canuckbur for sharing the pictures. KK
