Sands China Ltd Macau Open Badminton 2024

How on earth did Ye Hong Wei’s talent get partnered with such a clueless partner. Nicole Gonzales Chan got absolutely blasted off the court. Looks like she got pulled out of the junior league before being fully baked.

What happened to Lee Chia Hsin?
Nicole is only a couple of years out of the juniors.

I read about WCH but not about TSE.

They are consistent but not able to challenge the top pairs. I was rooting for them in HK SF but they lost badly especially the 2nd game. The gap was too big.

Hope HK can have new generations including MS.
NKL is getting on age and LCY, could play well one day and lose to a lower rank player the next day.
Tse said she had rheumatoid arthritis. Could not train properly even three weeks before the Olympics.

HK should have been sending the more players to smaller tournaments before the Olympics but that’s up to the coaches to decide.

Tomokq looked very tired today. Looks like she’s tired from all the travelling and away from home food.

Big difference to when I saw her in HK Open.

2 WS from Taiwan in Semis and 1 reached finals. Checked their ages , both are 25 and 26. I don't even know their names , let alone their achievements. Quite new to me. But they are really good. Good for them. They are invisible because they are overshadowed by Tai Tzu Ying.

Jolly isn’t the most elegant of players. However, she’s certainly a player you want as a partner. Very supportive of her partner whose touch seems a bit off today.

Jolly's work is wasted having an average front court player. Gopichand's daughter is very average. Work ethic ratio is 90 : 10 between these two. Unfortunate, india don't have so many options

I notice that Taiwan is sending 9/32 Men's Double pairs, 12/32 Women's Double pairs, and 14/32 Mixed Double pairs in this Macau Open.
That's a lot of talented players.
Does CTBA fund all of them or the players compete independently?
Taiwan has always sent many, many players in the world Tour. I frequently see too many of their players occupy the quarters and semis of a 300 tour. Not sure if are these independent or national rep players. But, they surely have the quality and much of their quantity. Just MS alone, there are almost double-digits of them very competitive in the tour

On the other note, I noticed Japanese and Korean players are dropping down the ranks in recent times. MD in Japan seemed very quiet recently. As for KOR, other than Seo/Kang, the rest are playing catching ups. Meanwhile, MAS, CHN and INA are dominating the rest. Even DEN has few up-coming MDs.

If you know the classic film "God of Gamblers II", you will know what the umpire is doing. Quite appropriate with the connection to Macau's main industry. :)
