Shuttlecocks are seriously overpriced?

That is a very good point regarding standard and quality. You can put up $10, $15, or $20 but still not sure what you are going to get. They vary a lot.

BTW, a friend of mine has an interesting suggestion. Why can't shuttlecocks be made with synthetic feathers. In another word, "fake feathers". There ought to be smart people out there can figure this out. It probably won't be any cheaper but at least, they will last longer.

Technically, this is achievable but as we all know, somebody need to make a living out of this. I was told light bulb can be made to last the whole life. Who is going to shoot his own feet?

Even Yonex has 1 to 5 model with varies in weight. I know the intension is for training, etc but can't we stick to one common weight?

The difference in weight is due to the environmental conditions, such as altitute and temperature.

not really if u're in china:D.Since the cheap but playable will only be around $3 to $6..

hey Smichz, can i ask u if the shuttlecock brand 'AN-YU' is a chinese brand? when my friend first sold me for AUD18 per dozen, i thought i was ripped off for a cheap chinese brand but its quality turns out to be much better and longer lasting than yonex, yang yang and RSL shuttlecocks. you guys should try AN-YU shuttlecocks =)

Lol they call them "Birds" XD
I really agree that the shuttles are pricy, and wayyy too pricy here in montreal
The reason why some region's shuttles are more expensive is that
Every region has a Life's Cost (In french we call it "Le coût de la vie"
for example, if you want to know which state in the USA is the most costy
to live in, you can try to call 2 mcdonalds in every states (except
vermont cuz there aren't any in there) and ask them for one BigMac's
price. The states where the bigmac costs the most are relatively
more expensive to live in. (Just an experiment some people did)
Here, in quebec we did it with Poutines (french fries + cheese kurd + grayvee sauce)

The same with Shuttlecocks; the price will vary in function of the
life's cost in where we live.
By the way, in Montreal-Laval, here, the YonexAerosensa-20
shuttlecocks in Sports Experts,
probably the most popular sports shop in here, are 34,99CA$ for a dozen
(approx 29US$)

Some clubs sell em for 22CAD/dozen. Way better =) but still too pricy
as-40 should be 25$/doz..

Never seen that before.I doubt that it's really sold in chinese market.Btw,make a search of bird brands n then tell me.If i have tried them,i'll tell u which one u should buy..

i agree shuttles are overprice... even plastic ones
Carlton T-800's are 9.99 at Canadian Tire (i no lame but onli plave close by that had shuttles) and theres onli 6 in a tube...
Feathers Cost Pretty Similar here cept they just dont last...

If you guys want good shuttles at a nice price take a plane to hkg then bring some(example 100 tubes of rsl tourney No I at 85hkg$/each not so expensive),or buy a factory ,do sme shuttles then sell them at a chaep price at original cost(without any tax or marginal value),
yonex need money to pay advertising ,to give pocket money to lin dan ........
want they give some free racket to the good player........
shuttles are not so expensive when you see the job done by chinese girls
during all the process of makinf a shuttle!!!!!!!!
in case feather are too expensive go for plastic shuttle!!!

why not to china then?Since birds in HK is definitely more expensive than in china.Do u know this?A feather shuttle is made of a 1 1/2 goose total feathers?I knew it during a match,n the commentator said that. So,no wonder it's expensive. But i'm glad there's still birds that is sold around 2 USD a dozen in china, for the outdoor fun. So,more ppl can afford it n play the game.

Shuttles are overpriced, but I guess we just have to live with it. It's like Golf, the balls are expensive, but it doesn't stop the passionate people that love it to stop playing. Were just like that too, their expensive, but atleast we have a cheaper choice of using plastic birds.

Well if it's true what people are saying that eventually we will run out of feathers for shuttles, than I can only imagine that the price will go higher as the supply doesn't meet the demand

for my club I bargain some 400 tubes of yang yang at 13 euros, memebers pay them 10 euros only cos my club make benefit,in september yangyang increase up to 14,50 euros this is the price for the other club for this season
normal price are around 15-16 euros,
don't hope the price could go down one day ,because chinese must eat more
and more goose,or french goose liver factory must keep some feather to sell to china!also chinese girl must be paid more and more ,the shuttle must
have a certificated (the feather are well washed,I mean they are clean
after a bath......)corck from portugal are more and more expensive!!
