SINGAPORE OPEN 2023

Juz saw on twitter for this week, LZJ and christie ranking dropped. But LSF is now top 10, SYQ is now ranked 6th? How did he even get there, he hasn’t been playing well at all. Actually none of them have played well in Thailand, Malaysia (if they played) or here.

I wondered why LWK changed racket to 77pro? My noob opinion is that when he had the 100zz he played much better, which can be totally unrelated. Personally i found 77pro very mid.
lol i didn't even know he changes to 77pro.....that racket is unsuitable for doubles play....really trash racket for double especially at high-level play

it's fine for single & casual double

pros double players may be able to completely tame it over time through many hours of playing though i somehow remain doubtful....

I had thought the young Chinese MD pair would give a tough fight or win the encounter against the Japanese pair. But they gave in so easily. The Japanese pair were very aggressive, consistent and showed more confidence, in contrast to the Chinese pair, who made several unforced errors. Wang doesn't normally make unforced errors but today he and his partner were scared of their opponents. Even with their big powerful smashes of Liang couldn't threatened the Japanese pairs and some smashes ended up in the net from Liang! It was an anti-climax.
They played a subpar and under performing MAS MD and got it to the final. Aaron's smashes were like village champion level and he also made more mistakes than his usual outings. Soh's defences, as always were weak. JPN pair's smashes were more deadly and effective.

Aaron Chia has chronic shoulder injury so his smash at best is 80%. I feel like they have to compensate in other ways to win a tournament.

They are doing many rotations where Soh is at the back. its really not that hard to beat them i feel.

Maybe it’s got to do with his shoulder that always has strapping on it recently.

I recall the male commentator of the Finals saying Kobayashi has a different smashing technique that gets better angles and allows the JP pair to remain dangerous under more court conditions (drift?), LWK’s style heavily focusses on power and by implication has poorer angles.

Watching the 2nd set, it feels like Japan had more control of the rallies and the Chinese pair hit more drives (slightly) upwards than they usually do; might be their serving this match combined with Kobayashi’s left-handedness throwing them off.
