Hi! (I have repeated this post in the Europe forum but we are not adverse to playing further afield- more of an adventure! Any tournaments abroad for student amateurs??) I currently play for my University's Mixed and Ladies Badminton Teams and I want to organise a trip abroad for next summer for the team. We were hoping to join in an International Student Badminton Tournament, or any student tournament abroad that we would be eligible for. I wonder if anyone can give me a pointer as to where one might be held in 2008? Does anyone know of any Universities even further afield than Europe who may want to organise some sort of competition? With just two universities, it may not be so fun, but with more, it could be really good! Are there any clubs abroad which hold tournaments that 20-25 year old amateurs can play in? The idea of playing in Asia is both an exciting and very scary thought (the skills!) Many Thanks! Priya x vbrep_register("623290")
Hi there, In the United States there are two International Junior Tournament that I know of: 1) MBBC (Manhattan Beach Badminton Club), typicallly have international tournament in the summer, in August, please refer to: http://www.mbbadmintonclub.com/tournaments/index.html http://tournamentsoftware.com/sport/tournament.aspx?id=15465 2) OCBC (Orange County Badminton Club), conducts Winter International tournament, one week before Christmas. For more info, please see: www.ocbadminton.net http://tournamentsoftware.com/sport/tournament.aspx?id=12604 These are junior tournaments that allows international players. The Under-22 events are probably what you are looking for. (Additionally there are U-19, U-17, U-15, U-13, and U-11) Good Luck.
hey, An International student badminton tournament is held in limerick , ireland evey year. http://www.galwaybadminton.com/ISBT/ISBT.html im not sure, but i think its the only one in which you could play as we mainly play leagues and such over here. As far as i know, the best way to play in the larger European tournaments is to simply win your league ( at the top division preferably ) and your governing body will/should tell you when you qualify to play in a bigger event.
The new website for the Irish ISBT is http://www.isbts.com/ Standard varies from 'barely able to pick up a racket' to some of the better university players in Ireland, Britain, Germany, Netherlands etc. Other websites: The Amsterdam one (finished for this year I think): http://isbt.us-badminton.nl/ Berlin: http://www.isbt.de/ Enschede (NL): http://www.wbwtv.nl/diok/? Cologne: http://www.isbt-cologne.de/ Think there's one in Russia coming up fairly soon, not sure of the website, you might be able to google it.
All junior national tournaments in badminton countries would host you if u go through proper channel and are sufficiently high in rankings in your own country.I can speak for india and I know some junior players from other countries with less badminton culture play here.I think the same will be true for other countries provided u play at the same level. Regards
Just type university & badminton into google you'll be suprised how many hits you get. I would suggest just you pick a country or an area and speak to the govening body or an another university in that country (with badminton listed of course ) There are many tournaments of various levels in most areas depends on your standard. Try singpore secretariat@singaporebadminton.org.sg or new zealand. http://www.auckbad.co.nz/ Why not try some of the senior events http://www.internationalbadminton.org/ & then contact uni's around that area Best of luck (which uni are you from)
