Version 1
Hi, here is a list of the current things that are irritating me and makes me go red with fury (no offense is intended), and with or without reason :
I hate people who judge what kind of player you are by the rackets you use.
I hate people with exagerate serving stance and action (like hold shuttle behind back for 5 seconds before serving. Everytime. Why???)
I hate "posh" badminton clubs in UK with an elitist attitude, who do not allow "normal", or lower class people (in their eyes) to play with them by charging an unbelievably extortionate high membership fee (Hundreds of pounds per month!)
I hate badminton clubs (and people) who THINK they are elitist and that badminton was designed for their sporting needs.
People who deliberately do not shake hands with you after a match (regardless win or lose).
People who leave the shuttle on the floor after the point was played and won. Forcing either their opponents to cross under the net and pass it back, or their partner to pick it up.
People who call every opponent's shot "out" if it lands anywhere near a line.
People who sling shots or hit twice and do not call. Sometimes they even demand to play a let if the rally is stopped.
People who try to repeatedly AND deliberately smash in your face (they shout YES, and clinch fist everytime it works).
People who stare at the racket everytime they lose a point (I used to do it, but now I stopped cos I consciously know how silly it is).
People with ungraceful shots, especially "tennis" style huge backhand drives. In fact, all people who play with terrible technique and still get away with it.
People who shout and scream every rally to put their opponent off.
People who mess with the shuttle before serving.
People who refuse to allow you to warm up and start playing games immediately.
People who refuse to "knock up" with you or play a friendly. For the people who reply when asked, usual excuses are they are injured - and then go on to play the next match as soon as other people are available, say they are resting or waiting for another match. Worse is people who say it is boring so no. Worst is people who pretend you are not there and can't hear you. They just stare into blank space! *******
People who try to lecture you when they are not very good themselves.
Ladies who just stand at the front during mixed and do nothing, expecting the male to get every point back. They just wait for the easy net kill!
People who do not try.
People who ignore the "pick from the first 6 or 8 people on the list" for club matches, so they can play whoever they like whenever. For instance, there are 4 courts, 20 players all playing doubles. 4 x 4 = 16 people on court with 4 people waiting. The rule of the club is you pick 4 from the first 6 people available, the person in the front of the queue picks first. I am second on the queue.
A B X X X X X X X X X X X X X X Y Y Y Y
where A represents person picking, B is me, X is people who came off, Y is the last to come off courts.
A picks a team A, X, X, Y!
The list is not accurate as these people come off at different times, but you get the picture...
This doesn't always happen to me but it does happen, and to other players to (usually beginners), who are put off and never come back. Where is the new talent meant to come from? When the current players go (they are all old anyway) where is the people to fill them in? No wonder badminton is such an unpopular sport.
What do you hate about the game and the people who play it? My main criticism is of prejudice, racism and dishonestly. By the way, I am talking from a UK perspective.
Slanter, Dlb and other UK people care to comment?
