    "Western Australian International – Next Stop Athens

    The six Australian badminton athletes selected for the Athens Olympics will be competing in Perth this weekend before heading for pre-Olympic training in Singapore. The athletes are competing in the Western Australian International, hosted at the Kingsway International Sports Stadium, Madeley together with athletes from ten countries in what will be their last badminton tournament before the Athens Games in less than three weeks.

    We are delighted to see our top Australian athletes here and to have such a diverse international representation†Gae Gaffney, President of WA Badminton Association said earlier today. “We are very proud of our athletes going to Athens – and especially proud to see West Australian Travis Denney amongst the six badminton players going to Athensâ€. Denney will be playing with Kate Wilson-Smith in the mixed doubles and Ashley Brehaut in the doubles. Denney is ranked 13th in the mixed doubles world badminton rankings.

    The Athens athletes are brothers Ashley and Stuart Brehaut (VIC), Jane Crabtree (VIC), Travis Denney (WA), Lenny Permana (VIC), Kate Wilson-Smith (SA). The players cover all five disciplines in the sport.

    Players from than 10 countries including Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, India, Taiwan and England will be playing in singles, doubles and mixed doubles competitions at the Kingsway International Sports Stadium starting 9:00am Friday 23 July. The event will culminate in spectacular finals starting Sunday morning,
