Greetings everyone@ccc,

hkhung posted this;

chris, i wonder do we need a new discussion thread for the matter of "should we use the whiteboard"?

cos
- this whiteboard matter concern both wed + friday thread, and so far it's been talked in the wednesday thread exclusively
- there's been loads of people talking about this, so i think it merit its own thread at the moment.

feel free to put in suggestion.

Please feel free to put in your comments.

I think in general, CCC badminton have a great group of members who are genuinely good hearted and friendly to arrange games amongst themselves and for new members attending the social session.

Wednesday's MSAC open environment sometimes do require the use of whiteboards as we do get more new members and the whiteboard makes matters look for organised helps us makes sure that new people get enough games as they can see for themselves how many times everyone is playing so they dont feel neglected when there are too many people.

Friday's Glen Waverley session is more in-house where everyone seem to know each other and from when I've started playing there (Just after Chris left for overseas), we've just played without the whiteboard.

Though from my experience with the club, the whiteboard has always been used because we used to play with a handicapped system that would only have worked with the use of the board. However, since i've come back to the club, it's never been used so the whiteboard has lost a lot of it's purpose.

Greetings,

Thank you for your comments ShyYen. :):):)

I will bring the Whiteboard for our Wednesday session tonight, 2-Apr-2008.

So let us list the advantages/disadvantages in using the Whiteboard.

Advantages in using the Whiteboard
(1) It shows who has arrived for our session
(2) It informs members who will be playing next
(3) It monitors how many games each member has played
(4) It is very useful for members wishing to organise "rematch" games
(5) It informs us "Who's gone home"
(6) It informs us "Who's going for supper"

Disadvantages in using the Whiteboard
(1) It takes time and effort to set it up
(2) It requires members to organise their own games ***

*** When lazy members do not attend to the Whiteboard, other members are spending much time organising games for them lazy ones. :(:(:(

Hi Chris, good to know that you are back in Melbourne and as motivated as before on badminton and CCC. :)

Why don't you get the members to vote whether to keep the whiteboard or not during their normal CCC session? I just felt that it's more practical/productive than to discuss with a small group of members here. You should know that most CCC members don't actually post in BC.

However, if I misunderstood the purpose of this thread, I apologise. :o

Suggestions and ideas are what our members@cc want

We are trying to get everyone@ccc to read and to post here@Badminton Central.

Suggestions and ideas are what our members@ccc want. :):):)

Before we get our members@ccc to vote, we should weigh out all the advantages and all the disadvantages in how CCC should do things. Furthermore, not all members@ccc attend every session.

CCC will always allow our members to decide on how we do things.:cool::cool:

However, many members@ccc treat me as boss, and think that I should be the one making the decision for them.

I have to repeat this... "All members@ccc have say on how CCC is to be run". :):):)
.

Never been a fan of the board and probably never will, too much hassle looking up for games and organizing. Love how the wed's currently running now and wish it doesn't change :)

Just my 2c.

Just my opinion for some points...RED WORDS ;)

Advantages in using the Whiteboard
(1) It shows who has arrived for our session (just a badminton court, isn't hard to look at who has arrived)
(2) It informs members who will be playing next (Good for lazy people waiting being inform rather than looking at the white board, poor guy for the one alway inform others)
(3) It monitors how many games each member has played
(4) It is very useful for members wishing to organise "rematch" games (hmm..)
(5) It informs us "Who's gone home"
(6) It informs us "Who's going for supper"

Disadvantages in using the Whiteboard
(1) It takes time and effort to set it up
(2) It requires members to organise their own games ***
(3) Spend time to explain to every new player how this thing works.
(4) From my observation, always regular players would take action on the whiteboard (not volunteer) rather than every player involved.

*** When lazy members do not attend to the Whiteboard, other members are spending much time organising games for them lazy ones. :(:(:(

I think every CCC player will fair to others, take turn accordingly, we will not let new player sit there to watch or just play 1 game or 2 game for the whole night, right???

Wednesday CCC Socials@MSAC: Whiteboard was not required

Wednesday's MSAC open environment sometimes do require the use of whiteboards as we do get more new members and the whiteboard makes matters look for organised helps us makes sure that new people get enough games as they can see for themselves how many times everyone is playing so they dont feel neglected when there are too many people.

The Whiteboard was brought to our session last night, Wednesday 2-Apr-2008.

It was only used to show who has arrived for our session. Nobody thought it was necessary to use the Whiteboard to organise games. We had 19 players for our session, 3 of them are newcomers. For the earlier part of the session we managed to get 2 courts, and for the later part, 4 courts.

So even without the use of the Whiteboard, we think that everyone has got enough games. :):):)

We will see what will happen next Wednesday.

Every CCC player to be fair to others

Agree with what you have posted. Especially that we require time to explain to every new player how this thing works. It was always boring for me, when I have to explain how it works, week after week. :(:(:(

And also, always regular players would take action on the whiteboard (not volunteer) rather than every player involved. This I agree with you too. In order to make our Whiteboard Queuing System to work, every player is required to be involved. Unfortunately some will leave it to others to do it. There were times that I had to spend so much time with the Whiteboard that I did not get much a chance to play. :(:(:(

We hope that
every CCC player will be fair to others, take turn accordingly, we will not let new player sit there to watch or just play 1 game or 2 game for the whole night will be the best solution. :):):)

I just realized my comment has started a chain reaction!

Thim, here's some of my thoughts and hope you don't mind.

(4) From my observation, always regular players would take action on the whiteboard (not volunteer) rather than every player involved.

well, we been hoping that everybody would help with the whiteboard.

*** When lazy members do not attend to the Whiteboard, other members are spending much time organising games for them lazy ones. :(:(:(

actually, when it's that particular person turn and he/she either sit too far away or not in visible sight, we have been asking the next person to come up to the board.
Anyway, I think it’s not very easy for Chris to always stop people at anytime of the session to give a speech about the white board queuing system. Especially to people who are regulars who have listened to the speech for the umpteeth time (mind changing the wording a bit every now and then, Chris?). besides, what if people arrive at 8:30 and chris already made a speech.

Since Chris always repeat himself (not only explaning the whiteboard but everything else when you get people asking the same question), I have suggested playing a tape of his speech for newcomers instead of him talking about the whiteboard, and for those of you who are laughing (jason -f i am referring to you once again), this is not a joke. For those of you who are not laughing at all ….. well

So the fact that everything went well without the white board when he was away on Friday/Wednesday nite shows that people can organize themselves.

Appreciate if players@ccc can understand why certain things are requested from them

Hi hkhung,

If only 50% of us would help with our Whiteboard, then it would be great. However, when only 10% helped, then that 10% would feel frustrated. :o:o:o

Anyway, I think it’s not very easy for Chris to always stop people at anytime of the session to give a speech about the white board queuing system. Hahaha... do you think that I like repeating myself? :D:D:D

You should know why an announcement was repeated. It is because what was said seemed not understood or cared for. :(:(:(

For example, let's look at organising players attending supper. The main reason for us to know who will be attending is for us to inform the restaurant what table size is required. Look at last night, Friday 11-April-2008, nobody wrote their names on the Whiteboard...... but we ended with 10 players attending. :):):).

I would appreciate if players can understand why certain things are requested from them.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Cheers... chris@ccc

when i said "well, we been hoping that everybody would help with the whiteboard.", the "everybody" would mean 100%

of course, i know you do not like to
- stop everybody in the middle of the game
- repeat yourself
so i understand how frustrate+stress you are about the whiteboard system when you yell out those famous words - "empty court!" even though you are in the middle of a game.

hopefull organising attending supper would be much easier+better result than organsing games using the white board.

cheers.

I just couldn't stand seeing empty courts not used

Our regular CCC players need to help our new players with how to use our whiteboard

.
Greetings,

It's been just over 12 months ago since we created this thread.

Last Wednesday, 15-Apr-2009, at our CCC Session at MSAC, we have been told that some of our players are neglecting the proper usage of our 'CCC Whiteboard Queuing System'. Please be reminded that for the proper usage of our whiteboard, we need everyone to be actively involved.

Let us remind everyone the advantages/disadvantages in using our CCC Whiteboard.

Advantages in using our CCC Whiteboard
(1) It shows who are participating in our session
(2) It informs who will be playing next
(3) It monitors how many games each member has played
(4) It allows our players to organise their own games
(5) It reminds who has gone home (left our session)
(6) It tells who will be attending supper

Disadvantages in using our CCC Whiteboard
(1) It takes time and effort to set it up
(2) It requires our players to organise their own games

What our regular CCC players need to do:
We need to be actively paying attention to our whiteboard (Who's playing next?).
We need to explain to our new players how our '
CCC Queuing System' works.
We need to help to arrange games for our new players.

Cheers... chris-ccc

The whiteboard monitors how many games each member has played

.
Greetings,

It's encouraging to receive emails to say that that we should continue using our 'CCC Whiteboard Queuing System'.

Yes, personally I would have thought so. Because without it, how do we know how many games each player has played? It is by the whiteboard, which monitors how many games each member has played. It is plain for everyone to see.

After selecting your players, please inform/warn them

Please Note:
After you have selected your 3 other players (with whom you wish to play in your next game), please inform/warn them. Because if they do not know, you cannot expect them to follow you onto the court.
.

CCCer who just entered ONE name on our whiteboard have been ignored

Please Note:
After you have selected your 3 other players (with whom you wish to play in your next game), please inform/warn them. Because if they do not know, you cannot expect them to follow you onto the court.
.
Also note: We have CCCers who just entered their own names on our CCC Whiteboard and hoped that others will enter their names to play with you.

It doesn't work this way. :o:o:o

We require all CCCers to communicate with one another to form playing our next game.
