or has it? i need your help.

from a very reliable source. the X digit of the DDMMYxSP cone code means:

    revision number

revision number is analogous to the 1st/2nd/3rd edition of a book. whenever Yonex finds any issue to improve on, they will do small revision on the design of the racket and then bump up the revision number.

a major cosmetic revision also bump the number. most later generation AT700 i have seen have 8 or 9 in the X spot.

while most other rackets, without the long history of the AT700, have lower number.

so this is what we need to verify the authenticity of this claim.

who has a latest database of all the yonex serials? can you plot a graph of a datecode vs. X code? if the claim is true, then the X code should increase with the date code for the same racket type. you will need to find a few rackets that has longer history, AT700, Ti10, etc.

if that's indeed the case, then i think the mystery is now solved.

That makes a lot of sense. It's like sofware. Version 2.0...goes to 2.1, 2.2, etc for minor improvements. Version 3.0 for major upgrades. :D

I have some of the serial but not all, 700 total, do you want me to plot them ? :)

Demolidor's list is longer, so his may be more accurate.

Looks plausible, with AT700 standing out by far, reaching up to 6 in year 1 alone (but starting at 4 in my list, earliest entry May 2003). Most models start out with 2, only MP100 in my list that started at 1. Any possibilty of unarchiving the beginning of the serial # thread? Or making that Part 1 and the current Part 2 ...
    AT800 starting at 1 as well ...

i can dump them out as a file or something. otherwise, we have 21,000 posts of just serial numbers.

i have a lot of sources. sometimes they are right, sometimes i wonder if they have been drinking too much the night before. ;)

this one has given me correct info before so it should be pretty reliable.

well judging from post #6 the information is correct.:)

Can the thread Be formatted into just the racket model and it's cone code/serial number per post, and nothing else ? That is easier to compute than looking through, some posts which are just garbage...

    not easily.

for those who follow the suggested format, that's possible. but many people don't. :(

Hmm, well If it doesn't take too long, then maybe just use the posts that follow the correct format, it should be enough to prove beyond reasonable doubt what the "x" has been.:)

    i have a VT80 and a VT80 limited. both with July 2011 date and X code is 2.

so perhaps limited's are not considered a revision.
