Hong Kong Open will be the last chance for players to earn high ranking point to consolidate their position and qualified for season-ending event which provides fantastic prize money, Guangzhou World Tour Finals next month. Many famous names had topped podium since inaugural edition in 1982, no exceptional for this year strong line-up as part of HSBC-BWF World Tour Super 500.

Reigning world champion Kento Momota once again will find tough obstacle prematurely, two-time Olympic Champion Lin Dan. With the accumulated fatigue to play long matches in just concluded China Open it's challenging task for Momota to repeat victory in HKG Coliseum against the enigmatic Lin. Another top-ranked MS, Anthony Ginting, Chou Tien Chen and Son Wan Ho fill out upper half of draw. Current China frontmen Chen Long and Shi Yuqi are slated to face off in last eight while Srikanth Kidambi, Kenta Nishimoto and local favourite Ng Ka Long occupy third quadrant of draw.

Defending champion Tai Tzu Ying who pulled out from CHN Open will show up here and a mouth watering duel may happen in quarters against three-time World Champion Carolina Marin. A possible Chen Yufei-Nozomi Okuhara rematch also another intriguing last eight tie. Two-time world championships silver medalist Pusarla V.Sindhu has opportunity to take revenge over Chinese left-hander He Bingjiao at same phase. Former world champion Ratchanok Intanon must fix her dismal outcome if she wants to secure Guangzhou ticket, a stern test possibly awaits her at quarterfinal, Akane Yamaguchi or Saina Nehwal as these two elites cross swords very early on the day after tomorrow. 2012 Olympic Champion Li Xuerui returns to take part highly-competitive tournament, started from qualifying round here.

Current most successful men's doubles pair Gideon/Sukamuljo will continue to create record, aiming more titles in one calendar year. Looking at the draw, the Indonesians should have no major threat to march into semifinal where they're projected to meet third seed Liu C/Zhang N. The underperformed World Champion Li JH/Liu YC have tough rival to pass firstly, Lee JH/Lee Y. Other seeded combinations at bottom-half of draw to notice Kamura/Sonoda, Alfian/Ardianto, Chen HL/Wang CL.

Korea women's doubles pairs scored sensational victory in Fuzhou to ruin powerful Japan squad. Interesting stuff to wait whether they could emulate stellar feat or Japan strikes back and become vigilant this time. Fukushima/Hirota are predicted to cruise into semis smoothly where they will meet either Polii/Rahayu or World Champion Matsumoto/Nagahara. Tilte-holder Chen QC/Jia YF have arduous mission to defend their crown considering the uninspiring performance post Asian Games triumphant.

The Olympic Champion Tontowi Ahmad will start new chapter of his career, paired up with younger partner Della Destiara Haris, they have a tough job to overcome All England Champion Watanabe/Higashino at first round. Formidable duo Zheng/Huang withdrew but China still has Wang/Huang, Zhang/Li and the latest hotshots He/Du as backbone in this category. Second seed Wang/Huang have tricky opponent, home hopeful Lee CH/Chau HW who will end their partnership after HKG Open.

With Zheng/Huang's withdrawal, XD remains open for any other pairs. Zheng/Huang's points is so high that even their withdrawal here doesn't reduce their points.

Minions and TTY also won't get any points even if they win this tournament  hope they change the rules next year

They should use the points of 3 S1000 , 5 S750 and other best 4 to qualify for Finals rather than using all the tours.

What rules? If they win the tour, they get money. They already win many so i dont think they care bout the points...

The one required them to play minimum 4 s500 tournament a year. Better get some rest for WT final.

If I am them, I will just lose on the 1st round and get home tbh
A lot of players have done that. Zheng/Huang retired in Korea Open. Lee/Shin retired in all 3 tournaments on last September. I guess this new rule forces some players to resort to this tactic. Prannoy was really unfortunate in India Open. He couldn't retire because he played against another IND players while being injured.

As predicted Li Xuerui and doubles specialists Kim GJ/Lee YD make it to main draw, Li will take on younger compatriot He Bingjiao while Korean famous pair have Danish number one Conrad/Kolding tomorrow.

Can Ahmad make this new partnership with Haris work?
Doesn't look promising to me. I know this is only their first tournament, and it is still too early to tell.
