Looks like Sayaka Hirota has ruptured another ACL, left knee to be exact, according to the footage. Could this be the end for her? Surely not enough time to recover for Paris.

Very sad indeed and Yuki doesn't have a partner. Her career finished as well?

Which knee was it before? It doesn't look good in the video. Why didn't she wear knee brace?!

Found a picture from earlier in this thread.

it was her right knee that was injured before.

This time it was her left knee that gave way.

Oh crap. Doesn't look good for her and Yuki...

Somehow something about the female musculature, physiology and biomechanics, this type of injury occurs in badminton in females much more than males...

If the injury is as serious as it looks, guess we have to say a premature goodbye to both of them. Yuki is already 30 and with the 2028 LA Olympics so far away, there might just not be enough motivation to stay playing. Really unfortunate. :(

Their shot at redemption during Paris is surely gone now. Must be hard to not resent your partner for giving you an identical set of problems from the last time.

    Sad News.
Seems that once one leg ACL is gone & another leg ACL is also getting injured.. Same thing happened to Marin..
Li Xuerui couldn't play to her 100% game after ACL.

But good thing is that Marin after 2 ACL also, fully recovered..

    Anybody can share,

What is her daily fitness routine after ACL injuries ?

Whether her physico's are available for on-line(video) services from Spain?

Hyper mobility of the joint. Have you noticed girls being able to hyper extend the knee past 0 degrees?

it’s not only that. It’s the mentality to push yourself after major surgery. In sports, generally more girls are affected by lack of confidence. This is a crucial factor in getting back to the very top of the sport. Marin is an exceptional case and crucially has had enough time to prepare for another Olympics.

If Hirota has another surgery and makes a comeback, it would truly be remarkable. Another factor would have been the long term plan for the pair. Had they planned to retire soon after the Olympics?

Classic case of overcompensating with the good/non repaired leg to protect the one that had the surgery.

Traditionally the replacement tendon is taken from the hamstring but it can only be done once. The rehab time is longer but is apparently as strong if not stronger than the original tendon.

There are other artificial replacements such as LARS. They have a shorter rehab time but not as strong as a hamstring graft

Strangest post from Hirota today saying she decided to forgo surgery & rehab for now and is going to continue to try qualifying for Paris. FukuHiro aren’t slated to participate in MAS, IND, and INA this January though so it’s unclear where we’ll see them again next.

Forgoing surgery is one thing. But forgoing rehab? How will her legs be able to support or even handle the stress without rehab? Commoners like us who forgo surgery and opt for rehab already take a long enough time to recover, don't mention pros like her with way more intensive and regular trainings and plays to be competition fit.

There's no way she can qualify for Paris if both legs give way. That's literally ending her pro life in the most destructive way possible.
