What should we drink in Badminton game

    Hi Folks,

    What do you normally drink during rest time in order to re-energise for another game. I normally drink water. Is there any drink that enables us to recover faster?

    Tea. Don't drink anything with sugar or it will make you all dry feeling. Powerades and stuff like that are for after refreshments. :)

    gatorade... not tea or coffee!

    you do need glucose and fructose to replenish your energy... that plus electrolytes (Na, K) also ...they're all in gatorade

    On a long tournament I sometimes take a sip of coke but I drink water immediately after. Else I just drink water.

    Sh1t, what a bunch of horrible advice!

    Coke?! Tea?! Plain water only?! No sugar or salts?! Good luck to the OP sorting thru all this.

    Red Bull (or some cheap generic copy thereof) - I play like a demon, then fall down very hard a couple of hours later:D.

    Well, maybe if you offer some better advice?

    I would stay away from anything with caffeine in (tea, coffee, energy drinks) as caffeine is a mild diuretic, meaning it dehydrates you.

    I wouldnt take any carbonated drink either, since you need oxygen,not carbon dioxide!

    Water only is fine if you have something to eat as well. If it is drink only then some form of rehydrating drink like gatorade, powerade, lucozade (still)..etc...

    Basically you need to get fluids, the salts you lost in sweat and some energy. Dairy is suppose to be good as you absorb the proteins fast. Try a proteinshake?

    Alcohol is a big nono as it is a strong diuretic and also the energy value in it takes a long time to break down.

    I drink a combination of water and gatorade. Water to replace lost fluids, gatorade to replace lost electrolytes and sugars.

    Some herbal or fruit teas dont, but normal teas from The tea plant do.

    When people say tea, this is usually the type they mean

    i believe the true solution would be a mixture of sugar (for energy), salt (for them sodium ions) and then chewing on a block of metal potassium for the other electrolytes in the body.

    or chocolate milk (i heard its better than gatorades and other fun drinks like that)

    Milk will contain protein. This will slow down gastric motility. i.e. will stay in the stomach for longer. I can imagine during a really tough long game, a person getting nauseated or being sick from it.

    Avoid caffeine - it's a diuretic. You'll get a short term boost of feeling energetic but your fine touch and control might be affected (worsen). Then the dehydration will set in.

    I agree, don't drink milk during a game, you'll feel sick. I find that chocolate milk is very good for "recharging" afterward though, because of that combination of sugars, proteins, and other nutrients.

    What about orange juice? I find that it helps me sometimes, is it good to have a sip or two?

    I personally wouldn't drink orange juice because of the acidity. But if it helps you, then why not?
