As requested last week, I've published an article on doubles tactics, on the Badminton Bible. As with last week's serving guide, this is an early draft, and so is low on pictures. And of course there's a lot more to cover on this important topic! Hope you like it.
I wish more club players would read Gollum's articles, especially this one about doubles tactics, so I don't have to deal with ridiculous choice of shots from some of the people I occasionally play with. I highly recommended people who are interested in getting better in badminton, to study what Gollum has written for the benefits of others. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
Glad you like it. This is going to be a tricky article to develop. In particular, I'd like to illustrate some of the "if he plays that shot, then you play this shot..." situations. I also want to cover advanced positioning (rotation, sides attack, and the like), and perhaps something about posture and racket carriage. Plus I need to be more precise about the basic attacking/defending formations, but that's not so hard. But first I think I'll write on some other topics. Maybe bash out a few forecourt/midcourt stroke techniques, since they're not too complicated. Hmm.
I see the Badminton Bible getting bigger and better.. in the matter of no time. Keep up the good work, Gollum!!
How about an article on general courtesy? Technique and skill are important, but after all not a lot of players are recreational players, and being able to show courtesy is an important thing to this sport. eg. It is a nice gesture to at least pick up the shuttle for your partner or opponent if it is close to you.
I'll definitely write one at some point, but probably not in a hurry. I don't think this is something that many people will be looking for (more people will want to know how to improve their game).
lol yes my current coach is very good! county 1st team and 80th best player in the country! hehe.. i was just stressing once again just how good ur work is just as an example.. coach told me never to do cross court drops in doubles, but i had some trouble understanding WHY i shouldnt do it.. now after reading your doubles guide... i know WHY!!
hey gollum good work! I guess the next article would logically be singles tactics....? for myself I'd love to see you do something on footwork, because IMO after grips the most important thing is footwork. and it is really difficult to find something systematic on the subject.
Good suggestions. I'm holding back on footwork, because it's going to be a nightmare to illustrate. Still, I suppose I could get write an article without illustrations (just as an early draft, you understand). Hmm...
yeah actually after I made the comment, I thought, actually it would be a tough article to write . rather you than me although I think if anyone could write something systematically on the subject it would be you. But without illustrations it might be quite difficult to follow for a lot of people, esp ignoramuses like myself. One option could be to use youtube...? a bit like the zhao jianhua and xiaojie videos do.
Well, I'm giving it a go now. I'll do my best with words alone, for the moment. Let's see how effective that may be. Good illustrations/photos will help a lot. I'll do those later (don't hold your breath though). As for video: this is on my mind, but it's a lot of work and a lot of bandwidth. I have some interesting ideas for video, but for the moment I'd better not get ahead of myself.
