Indian badminton league 2016(ibl) 2 jan to 17 jan 2016 http://www.thehindu.com/sport/other...-to-return-in-january-2016/article7820301.ece
The Indian Premier League is back. Well, not really. As Sporty Solutionz, the agency that launched India’s first professional badminton league in 2013, and the Badminton Association of India are arguing in court about who owns the rights to conduct the IPL, the BAI has set up another league – and it’s called the Premier Badminton League. The PBL is scheduled for launch on 2 January 2016 in Mumbai. The final will be held on 17 January 2016 in New Delhi. Here’s a snapshot of the six teams, the players (the line-up is not yet complete), and the prices at which they were acquired (there’s still plenty of confusion about the actual amount): Bengaluru – Bengaluru Top Guns K Srikanth $80,000 Joachim Fischer Nielsen $60,000 or $30,000 Ashwini Ponnappa $60,000 or $30,000 Sumeeth Reddy $25,000 Hoon Thien How $15,000 Lim Khim Wah $15,000 Suo Di $15,000 Robert Blair $5,000 Chennai – Chennai Smashers PV Sindhu $95,000 Chris Adcock $60,000 or $30,000 Sikki Reddy $60,000 or $30,000 Pia Zebadiah $20,000 Sony Dwi Kuncoro $20,000 Toby Ng $15,000 Srikrishna Priya $5,000 Hyderabad – Hyderabad Hunters Lee Chong Wei $100,000 P Kashyap $35,000 Markis Kido $35,000 Carsten Mogensen $60,000 or $30,000 Jwala Gutta $60,000 or $30,000 AS Siril Verma $7,000 Lucknow – Awadh Warriors Saina Nehwal $100,000 Cai Yun $60,000 Christina Pedersen $60,000 or $30,000 Tanongsak Saensomboosuk $41,000 Bodin Issara $17,000 Supanida Katethong $10,000 K Maneesha $5,000 Mumbai – Mumbai Rockets HS Prannoy $47,000 Vladimir Ivanov $42,000 Mathias Boe $60,000 or $30,000 Kamilla Rytter Juhl $60,000 or $30,000 Manu Attri $25,000 Han Li $24,000 Ruthvika Shivani $21,000 RMV Gurusaidutt $15,000 New Delhi – Delhi Acers Tommy Sugiarto $74,000 Tan Boon Heong $60,000 or $30,000 Rajiv Ouseph $36,000 Koo Kien Keat $36,000 Ajay Jayaram $35,000 Gabrielle Adcock $60,000 or $30,000 PC Thulasi $10,000 However, everything rests on the outcome of the next hearing in the IBL case in the Delhi High Court on Thursday, 10 December. Should the court throw out the claims by the former organisers, matters will go ahead as planned. But if the court were to agree that Sporty Solutionz is entitled to the rights they claim, the BAI might find it tough to go ahead with the PBL.
They split the Adcocks! Without knowing how the games will be played (sudirman cup formula?), it is difficult to know which team is stronger.
But in any ways I don't see how you can say New Dehli is the worst, Fox, MS, MD and XD all can be quite good! But as for now, there is no one for WS and WD (except for Thulasi who I do not know).
I think instead of having a league for each nation. We can have a broad big league, with teams after different world cities. For example, we can have a Badminton League, with teams made of: New Delhi, Mumbai, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Copenhagen, London, Tokyo, Seoul. The league should have the support of BWF, should be international, and loaded with money. This will make the event more international, and challenging. For example, in this PBL, there are very few top 10 players. The international league will invite everyone. We can then ban all other national leagues, like the Chinese League, and the English League. The teams will be bought, and players auctioned. For me as a fan, it doesn't make much sense to watch this PBL, because the players are very uneven. You have LCW, but no one who can challenge him. You have Saina, but no one will be able to challenge her.
But the Problem is The Players auctioned above play everywhere.....LCW plays for an Indonesian Team, for a Malaysian Team and for a PBL team too.............And there will be no dates available for such huge tournament.
That is why I'm saying to cancel all other tourneys. Just one big international one. With 10 teams maybe, based on cities.
Or there should do like football, have national leagues then the champions of each league meet the next year in a "champions league".
There are so many leagues all over the world. But i did not have interest in any leagues. Are we seeing all the country players in all the leagues ?. This PBL is a great concept. I never ever watched CBSL or any other leagues . I never ever do so because they are boring. I will definitely watch PBL . Since it happens for India , many want to see their indian idols playing. Saina is such a charismatic figure who can drag anybody to arena if she plays. She is a gift for india.
The list compiled by the news channel might not be accurate. For instance, Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong are NOT in the same team. In fact, BWF ranking pairs are not allowed to play as a pair in the PBL. (Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen are in different teams. Likewise with the Adcocks and Boe-Mogensen.)
you can not ban the local league. many professional players make money through such local league. That's why players outside Top 50 can still make huge money. Even, a Febby Angguni, who are not in Top 100 WR, can still earn around $40,000 this year by participating in many local league. If there is only 1 international league, then badminton money will only go around Top 20 player's bank account. It's not good for badminton. I don't agree. In Indonesia, Indonesia League is for the pride of the club. Li Yong Bo, once said that they create CBSL to give opportunity for local players to earn more money.
Are there any sports in the world where the international body bans the local league? Certainly unusual.
So many players missing this time around. Jan' O Jorgensen and Carolina Marin were here last time. Why did they not come this time? Denmark national team seems to have let their players decide whether they want to play. So where is Viktor Axelsen? For $42K last time, you could have bought a better player than Vladimir Ivanov, just saying. I understand that China, South Korea, and Japan don't want its players to come (except for Cai Yun, who is retiring anyways and not important to the national team) but not sure why players from other countries did not come this time. Are the top players skipping out because it is an Olympic year? I hope they do this tournament again next year and South Korea and Japan reconsider. It's a good chance for players to make some good money and this was a really fun tournament to watch.
