I use to play 4-5 times a week. I went from 77kg to 65kg. I was pretty chubby back then! Now I only play 3 times a week. Hovering at 65kg no matter what I eat.

I play a lot of singles now since I lost weight and I can move around the court :p

Hi I'm in France and hadn't played badminton for around 20 years (I'm 39 years old now). I weighed 85 kilos in september when I started playing badminton again. I started playing once a week, then two, then thrice a week from january onwards. I had to stop early May due to an ankle bone fracture (the Aircast is coming off in two weeks from now) and I'll be able to play probably in september.

Just to say that eating normal food (no special diet stuff) I now weigh 74 kilos (had to change my trousers, none of them fit me now !) Lost a lot of fat around the waist and probably some water weight involved too !

    Thanks to you badminton !

    Sport keeps fit, nothing else.

I put on weight from 65kg up to 75kg in 2 years of badminton playing, and just being satisfied with that.

I've lost about 13 pounds since the beginning of this year. The only significant change I've made is playing badminton 2 or 3 times a week instead of just once.

Like others already pointed out, you are building more muscule than before.

I think it's really depends on how is your condition to begin with (before start to play seriously):

    1. Skinny: heavier and stronger and healthier

    2. In decent shape: Not too much change, as your just "maintenan" the shape

    3. Lots of fat: lighter and skinner, as you reduce the "volume" (fat) and weight "extra fat - muscle". I can confirm this, as I was very errr.... :D

I've never lost weight; I'm still growing. I'd say that my muscle mass increased and my fat mass decreased. I'm still really slim though, at 124lbs, and 5'9.5''

i am worried now!!!:D i did take up badminton again for two reasons, one is because i love it and the other is because i want some 30 minutes per session, 3 times a week exercise, which i now have. but now i realize that indeed, my appetite is bigger than before. i haven't weigh myself in a long while so i dont know whether i lost weight or not. i feel lighter and less fatigued than before but i am worried that due to the increased appetite i might gain instead of losing weight! arrrgggghhhhh :) well at least i still have the love of the game.

Badminton isn't so effective in weight loss in my experience. It's still aerobic exercise, largely---it'll exercise your heart and lungs more than your skeletal muscles. Over the years I've played I can tell it's not responsible for my weight loss. I lost weight by lifting weights (anaerobic exercise) and eating more sensibly. What was once a 165 lb. body gradually weighed as low as 155 lb.

Still, badminton is a good way of maintaining your weight. I've foregone the gym due to the volume of my work, but I still get to play badminton at least twice a week and my weight still hovers at 158 lb.

I used to sit down and wait in between games but i now started jogging around the hall until it's time for my next game.

I hope this will inject more cardio activities in my badminton.

Frankly speaking, i agree with a few people here that badminton is not the ideal sport if ones intention is to lose weight. Infact, i have seen many "plum" players playing badminton for ages and still have not lost weight! (ie, me :D)
