much will depend on how serious is the outbreak in Japan. China is seeing a slow down in new cases. Korea is the next big worry now. these 3 countries are near to one another and see big movement in travellers across them.
I wont be surprised if they cancel the Olympics or put it on hold for some time, but lets see what happens.
No. About the deaths, the number in Iran was 8 dead people and 6+ in S. Korea. By statistic in China, the deaths will be around 2% in compared with the cases. So that, I think the number of cases in Iran can be 400+ and 300+ for S. Korea. And the number of dead people in Iran or S. Korea now surpass the the number of dead people in Japan. The situation was worse day after day. Now, Italia's case was bad as well.
Italy Iran & Korea looks bad. Japan looks moderately bad but no one is fixated on China anymore..in fact China looks better now but other countries get worst , so whats the point ? I feel like all containment has failed. There are border ban galore this weekend.some case where Israel banning Korea citizens after the plane have arrived in Israel. the head Israeli embassy got summoned in Korea and told not to do that again.
Yup, these three countries suddenly become on the spotlight now due to new confirmed cases have escalated fastly.
Italy has become very strict South Korea will take some time to recover. They had a lady who spread it to many people in a big religious group and that group didn’t want people to wear masks. They have some strange logic and now look what they caused. Iran is the biggest worry. Not much information and their facilities might not be able to cope. Japan hopefully will become more careful. They really messed up big time with handling the ship.
More people dies of seasonal flu. Just need to handle them well and live with it. No SARS cure till now. If OG is postponed, good for Momota.
wait till seasonal flu has the incubation time and transmissibility as severe as CoVid, and all things will also change people just like to throw away number without understanding the basic principle of 'Risk management' might also say, death through gunshot is much more often (in USA) than death through terrorism and war. who cares about war?
IOC senior member: 3 months to decide fate of Tokyo Olympics https://apnews.com/afs:Content:8539951776 By STEPHEN WADE yesterday **** Pound, the longest-serving member of the IOC, estimates there’s a three-month window to decide the fate of the Tokyo Olympics, which are being threatened by the fast-spreading virus from China. Pound, in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, did not sound alarmist. But he did speak frankly about the risks facing the Olympics, which open July 24. “You could certainly go to two months out if you had to,” Pound said, which would mean putting off a decision until late May and hoping the virus is under control. “A lot of things have to start happening. You’ve got to start ramping up your security, your food, the Olympic Village, the hotels, The media folks will be in there building their studios.” And if it got to the point of not going ahead, Pound speculated “you’re probably looking at a cancellation.” “This is the new war and you have to face it. In and around that time, I’d say folks are going to have to ask: ‘Is this under sufficient control that we can be confident about going to Tokyo, or not?’” ==================================================================== The modern Olympics dating from 1896 have only been cancelled during wartime, and faced boycotts in 1976 in Montreal, in 1980 in Moscow and 1984 in Los Angeles _ all in Pound’s memory. The Olympics in 1940 were to be in Tokyo, but were called off because of Japan’s war with China and World War II. Pound called uncertainty a major problem and repeated the IOC’s stance — that it’s depending on consultations with the World Health Organization, a United Nations body, to make any move. So far, the games are on. “It’s a big, big, big decision and you just can’t take it until you have reliable facts on which to base it,” Pound said. He said whatever advice the IOC is now getting, “it doesn’t call for cancellation or postponement of the Olympics. You just don’t postpone something on the size and scale of the Olympics. There’s so many moving parts, so many countries and different seasons, and competitive seasons, and television seasons. You can’t just say, we’ll do it in October.” If changes have to be made, Pound said every option faced obstacles. Pound said moving to another city seemed unlikely. “To move the place is difficult because there are few places in the world that could think of gearing up facilities in that short time to put something on,” Pound said. London mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey has suggested the British capital as an alternative. Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike suggested that was an inappropriate offer, using the virus as political campaign fodder. ========================================================================== How about delaying for a year, but staying in Tokyo? Japan is officially spending $12.6 billion to organize the Olympics, although a national audit board says the country is spending twice that much. “Then you have to ask if you can hold the bubble together for an extra year,” Pound said. “Then of course you have to fit all of this into the entire international sports schedule.” -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So many tournaments are cancelled now that I wonder what will happen with the qualifciation points and so on.
i think the deadline still remains the same, end of April. Unfortunate for those who are banking their hopes on the initial schedule of tournaments during this period to win a ticket, LD, SWH, etc. But then if the Olympics is cancel, it wouldn't matter at all.
have to see how things develop. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/new...scale-down-torch-relay-covid-19-fear-12472514 https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/25/toky...elled-coronavirus-not-contained-may-12302812/ https://www.channelnewsasia.com/new...olympic-highlight-if-tokyo-cancelled-12474402
Japan decided to close ALL schools Kindergarten, Junior & Senior High schools. So basically all schools will be shut from March 2 onwards. Not good folks. Even Korea didnt close its whole school system, so i think Japan knows what they are doing. Its just that its probably too late, should have closed a month earlier. The handling of the cruise ship wasnt good and it was unfortunate for Japan. Of course, Japan hasnt been testing as much people like Korea did.
Except that the outbreak becomes a pandemic, like worse than the swine flu, I doubt that the Games gonna be cancelled actually But precaution still have to be taken and, depending on the severity of the outbreak, any spectator shouldn't be allowed (and thus also no tourist influx specifically for the Games, purpose of visit will always have to be stated for any nationality).
