I think we can reasonably expect 'regular' participants from Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, just like past New Zealand Opens... Last year [NZ Open was in October, I think] was a bit unpleasant for the Indonesians because the National Team was disbanded and INA players who want to go to NZ had to finance themselves...

this is a huge improvement compared to last year's line up (5 players only from INA)

hopefully other countries will send their players as well..

btw, do you guys think that KLRC will ask all of the sponsored players to come? that'd be awesome, cos we'd get Lars/Jonas, Andrew Smith, Zhou Mi, etc.. :)

Among the contenders for the MD title:
Rupesh Kumar/Thomas Sanave
Gan Teik Chai/Tan Bin Shen
Hirokatsu Hashimoto/Noriyasu Hirata

XD:
Yohan Hadikusumo Wiratama/Chau Hoi Wah

WD:
Aparna Balan/Shruti Kurian

INA has a strong chance to win the titles from WD and XD!

The contenders for the MS and WS titles are aplenty.

MS:
Chan Yan Kit
Lee Tsuen Tseng
Anup Sridhar

WS:
Yip Pui Yin
Eriko Hirose, Megumi Taruno, Sekiya Mayu, Sayako Sato
Trupti Murgunde

Yes! I pick Debby-Pia to win WD. Rijal-Debby for XD... Fran-Pia is the next possible winner...

Andre and Hayom will play those 3 MS well... and among the WS, I say Sayaka Sato is the most likely person to win...

Here is the draws file,

No Tommy & Nugroho in drawing
Bad Draw in WD, Pia/Debby will meet Anneke/Anissa too early
Good Draw in XD :)

Some of the seedings are a bit of a surprise - especially Kritteka Gregory & Mary O'Connor being seeded in womens doubles.

Hi guys,
I just received this from email. Anyone here in NZ able to record? Unfortunately I don't have sky :-(

As you are aware the New Zealand Open Grand Prix is being held next week at the North Shore Events Centre.
We have a large and strong entry making it potentially one of the best events to be staged in NZ
We are featuring on the Sunrise Breakfast Show – TV 3, on Tuesday morning – 28th, at approx 7.10am , 8.10am and 8.40am
The finals will be shown on Sky Sport 2 as a delayed broadcast on Sunday 2 August 9am. There will then be a highlights package – 90 minutes, shown on Monday 3rd 3.30am on Sky Sport 3 and again at 11.30am on Sky Sport 2, then again on Tuesday 4th August – 2pm on Sky Sport 3
This is very good coverage for us, please be sure to tell people to watch it or record it
Our website will have all the up to date information about the event, keep an eye on it.
For all the inside information become a fan of the New Zealand Badminton Open on Facebook
There will also be regular reports on Radio Sport each day of the tournament.
For those based in the Auckland area, I hope to see you at the event to see a level of badminton not often seen in New Zealand
Please send this email onto as many people as possible
See www.badminton.org.nz for all information

It should be more fun for the NZ audience if not all of the seeded players are Asians... I actually prefer that NZ win one title... Badminton in NZ will grow better if there are local heroes... ;)

Hope the Djarum guys will do well. Same goes to our Malaysian boys... which i think only the doubles will go far.
