Will anyone be playing in this event run by Badminton England in August?
Hi Dill,
I will be planing to go to the event as i have be been train by LIBA:D and missed:( last years event.

thank you

Akife

yeah, i'm gonna go- i went a couple of years ago, it was great, i'm a little disappointed that they've spread it over a couple of days though - means finding somewhere to stay so that you can play both doubles events.

on the subject though - does anybody wanna partner up before the event? i usually put partner wanted, but if anybody entering the league mixed or mens doubles events i'll happily play with them.

hell - i'd even get a BC tshirt so that we could have a team kit :D

i would recommend people entering this - it's a good way to meet new people..

just out of curiosity, what's the standard like, do they have different draws for different age groups or levels?

there are two competition levels: social and league.
Social is for those who haven't ever played in league teams.
league is for those who play in local league teams.

The entry is restricted to players that have never played in Inter County Championships or for National Squads of any country.

so the standard in the league competition can be quite varied.

If i remember rightly last time there was a group stage in all the disciplines so you don't just get one match and then your out.

It's all very well run, and a lot of fun :)

highly recommended

Neil

agree

If they are anything like the Scottish format then you are arranged in groups of 4-5 where you play everyone else and the winner of the pool goes through to the knockout stages to play the winners of the other groups.

As for the level it is aimed at the player who would enter the Satellite and below, so again a varied standard even if you adhere to this listing.

I'm thinking of travelling down for a bit of an outing :D

Don't know how my knees will hold up though :(

But as Neil points out they are a good day out!!

A bit more info

I received an entry form through the post

Tournament Dates: Sat/Sun 6/7 August 2005
Closing Date: Wednesday 13th July
Entry Fees:
BE member 7.00 GBP
non-member 9.00 GBP

Saturday Events
10:00 Social MS & WS
10:00 League MD & WD
14:00 Social XD

Sunday Events
10:00 League MS & WS
10:00 Social MD & WD
14:00 League XD

All events will be played in groups with winners going through to a knockout stage.

I don't see the scoring format mentioned anywhere.
It's possible that it might be 1x21 in the group and then 3x15 in the knockout
It may depend on number of entries.

from what i remember it was best of three to 15,
i'd imagine they'd keep the same rules.

i can't stress enough how much fun it was. we had some stonking games last time.

i'm sure your knees will be fine Phil, the floor is gorgeous, nice and sprung...

I'll see you there, now if only I could find a doubles partner.......................

The Scottish ones are all games to 21 with no setting, except in the last one there were only 4 courts and it was 1 to 15.

What a letdown! :(

lol - i always put partner wanted, altho there's no guarantee to get anybody. i only got to play men's doubles last time.

now if i could find a mixed partner for it..

can't remember how many courts there are at NBC - quite a few i seem to remember 6, maybe 7 i think.

Phil - if you want a mens partner i'm certainly up for a laugh.

no i don't think you do, unless they've changed it. Last time i was there some county juniors turned up. a couple of them were a lot better than most of the players there and people felt a little hard done by because the rules specifically try to exclude county players. Juniors aren't excluded by the ICC rule though.

they may have changed things to solve this. i'll have a look at the leaflet when i get home -altho i've guess it's prolly online at the BadmintonEngland site..

It would be a huge laugh, ask Neil (Nichols) how bad I am. I don't even think he watched me at Cornwall I was that bad.

YOU would have to be carrying the game(s)

Yes I did. And I've seen worse players than you in satellites.

lol - no fear phil, i've only entered two or three satellites, and while improving, my singles performance was horrific - lucky if i get a point. i'm sure your not that bad.. we're prolly on an even keel..

so long as you can serve short, and run around a bit and get the shuttle back i'm happy.

:D

you can do that can't you???? :p

it'd have to be the league one, since i'm registered as a league player.
surely you play in a team in a league phil? or have done at some point. No social player in their right mind would enter satellite events if they weren't at some league standard.. :D

yeah Neil(N) where does Phil play - if he's that bad i might be able to go to a satellite and get through the first round :D :p

I just tried the Satellite because there were about 5-6 players from here going but in the end it was just me and Neil :(

In my right mind - don't you read Badders anymore :D

I will play social singles and League doubles. (oops they are on at the same time) darn it

Anyone got any pointers on nearby hotels (with a bar and fast food outlets nearby)?
