    Hi Chris@CCC & everyone else~!!!!! :)

    How are you all?
    Long time no see~ :p
    I know!!! What a surprise!!!
I was watching it LIVE on my computer - got so excited when andrewghw said that they are broadcasting it online the other day... so i couldn't give it a miss, eventhough... *ahem*.. hm.. anywayz~ ;)

Ya... during the 2nd half of the 2nd set... it was pretty nervous already... but i kept asking myself, "is it possible for it to happen today?" - BCL proved it to be possible~ although there are some controversies about this win, everyone has their own ways of interpreting things, i'd say no more. :)
Happy that BCL won ~ no offence, but it's always good to see a winner that's not LD - just for a change. ;)

Anywayz~ Congrats BCL & well done LD also. :p

    ~Take care everyone~ :) :) :)

P.S. - Wow.. Chris, you are fast... how did you find out about the results for that match? Did you watch it also? :D

BCL is back and good that you are back too.

My mum, a great badminton fan is here for a visit and brought along badminton news from the Chinese press. Li Yong Bo , the Chinese coach apparently verbally abused LCW everytime they faced each other, even threatening to break his legs.

Being a 'filial' son , taking my mum anger seriously, any wins by the Chinese is no good. Unfortunately they are too strong at the moment.

    Hi yschin!

I read about it as well... but I wasn't sure... coz not many people are talking about it on badmintoncentral - so I thought it was just another rumour coming out of no where. I think this "abusing" issue happened during the last tournament - the World Championship. (Think LCW was the one who got abused )

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that it really happened...
    where's the sportsmanship??? :(

Anywayz, personally, watching BCL winning instead of LD is a bit better.
Aiyo~ don't worry, I believe LCW will be back soon ;)

    Cheers~!

dial-up connection... not fast enough to receive it live

    Hi LilyC,

No, I did not watch the match live. I am still with dial-up connection... not fast enough to receive it live on my computer.

Anyway, it's also good to know that Chinese veteran Zhang Ning won in straight sets over Yao Jie from Netherlands to win women's singles final at the China Open Badminton Championships 2006.

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    Hi Chris! :)

Ya... although I'm not using dial-up, it was still hard for me to watch the games - it was a real test for patience i think... hehe.. but anywayz, I watched that match, too!!! :p
Zhang Ning is ssssoooo good!!!
Both of them are so tall~~~ *envy*

I wanted to watch the mix double match but I gave up because of the connection problem - the quality wasn't that good and had a bit of lag time - what a shame... oh well~ maybe next time!
    hehe~ ;)

Hi LilyC, I just found out you enjoyed watching mixed double matches. Did you notice all the DVDs that I gave Chris don't have many Mixed Double matches? Unfortunately, I hate watching XD. I hate seeing a 300km/h smash directed to the lady player. Yuck...gross...so un-gentlemanly of the male player. :p That's why I don't download many XD matches. But I have some that I downloaded long time ago. I will try to create a XD DVDs for you later.

[FONT=Bitstream Vera Sans, sans-serif]Some trainees found it most difficult to maintain the FAB(Front-And-Back) Formation during a rally. Curious about Taiwanese rice

    Hi LilyC,

After 8-Nov-2006, we@CCC should organise a dinner at a Taiwanese Restaurant in Melbourne.

Found this article... and I am curious about Taiwanese rice.

    Cheers... chris@ccc

    ====== start article ======

    Source:Liberty Times(2006/10/26 11:06:38)

Restaurants singled out for dishes made using Taiwan-grown rice

The Council of Agriculture's Agriculture and Food Agency has commissioned the Kaiping Vocational School, which focuses on courses related to food and beverages, to carry out a survey of restaurants that have made interesting creations using rice.

The project has been carried out in an effort by the government to promote Taiwanese rice products. All of the restaurants competing solely use Taiwan-grown rice. Taiwanese rice is used in traditional dishes such as braised pork rice. It is also used in a number of creative ways in Western-style dishes. Some of the restaurants will offer up the interesting concoctions to the public at a rice carnival to be held this coming Saturday.

An official from the Kaiping Vocational School said that the survey and the voting went on for three weeks. In just half a month, 45 restaurants from throughout Taiwan signed up to take part in the activity. Any member of the public wanting to cast a vote for the rice dish from their favorite restaurant can do so, but only after becoming a registered member in the activity. In addition, each day, a person can only vote once. The list of the Top 10 winners has been announced. Restaurants covering a broad spectrum of cuisines are taking part, from large scale franchised restaurants down to small mom and pop eateries that sell a bowl of braised pork rice for just NT$30.

One of the top 10 restaurants is the Yihsiangyuan Hakka Restaurant, located in Taipei. The popular dish that they cook up is a Hakka-style dried turnip and pickled mustard green fried rice. The owner of the restaurant said that in the past he tried cooking with a number of different rice from China, Thailand and Malaysia in an attempt to cut costs. However, in the end, the texture of Taiwanese rice, along with its good quality and safety, were the main factors in deciding to stick with using Taiwanese rice, making it the perfect match for his dishes. "After all, tasty rice should accompany tasty dishes," he said.

Meanwhile, an owner of an operation that makes lunch boxes in the Kuanshan area said that at each rice harvest, he makes a trip down to Taidong in eastern Taiwan to select outstanding rice that has been grown in a pollution-free environment. The owner of a Japanese food restaurant said that he even makes trips himself to wholesalers of rice and carts the rice back with him to his restaurant. He said that this ensures that the rice is the freshest possible. He added that he insists upon using up all the rice he cooks each day and never saves cooked rice for use the following day. In addition to restaurants who rated high based on the quality of their rice, other restaurants scored well for interesting ways in using rice. A restaurant in Taipei County stood out among the crown for its rice pizza tower, which is made using Kuanshan rice.

However, of the restaurants in the Top 10 list, five are unable to set up stalls at the rice carnival that will be held this weekend. They said that they are too busy with business at their restaurants to move their operations elsewhere temporarily. In order to make sure that the public still has a wide range of choices at the rice carnival, organizers of the event have decided to allow restaurants ranking in the Top 20 to set up stalls at the carnival site on Saturday.

The rice carnival will be held on Saturday from ten in the morning until three in the afternoon in the northern square outside the Red Brick Theatre in the West Gate District of Taipei. There will be a contest to see who can create the most creative dish using Taiwanese rice. In addition, the restaurants that ranked high in the voting will also set up stands to sell their products to the public.

In one of the more innovative ways to use rice, teachers from the Kaiping Vocational School on Wednesday held a press conference to unveil rice ice cream as well as a stewed rice dish with a truffle and coffee taste to it. The dish makes use of No. 2 Taiwan rice, which has large and plump kernels. Chopped up onions and red onions and used in frying up the rice. Chicken soup stock, truffle sauce, cheese powder, and butter are used to season the dish. Lastly, some coffee powder is also included to enable the rice dish to have a faint coffee aroma to it.

Teachers from the school also showed off the ice cream made using rice. Penglai No. 10 rice was employed as it is stickier than regular rice, but not as sticky as glutinous rice. The rice is first ground into a paste, after which milk, vanilla and malt are added and the mixture is boiled. Cream is then added and then it is cooled. The mixture is then put into an ice cream maker, which turns out a wonderful ice cream.

Chris, me and Jason F had a discussion about the position of front and back while ready to be served.

I wonder that for the back person's position for reciving service/shots, how far back would be depended on how good the person is for their footwork.

Basing on the theory that moving forward is easier than moving backward, would it make more sense for the person to be further back?
