Very much hope so, Li Shifeng is capable of springing some surprises, not saying he can march to the final but let's see who among the frontrunners is/are unlucky enough to come a cropper at his hands.

Besides, LSF having gained valuable experience playing at the major team championships, namely the Thomas and the Sudirman Cups, would much need to do the same competing at the individual world championships that should stand him, a budding talent, in good stead for his professional career in world badminton.

Can't wait to see him at the world championships as Team China is indeed under-represented in MS in the absence of both Chen Long and Shi Yuqi. Jiayou, Li Shifeng !

[China Badminton Association announces the World Championships National Badminton Participants List]

On November 29, the Chinese Badminton Association announced on its official website the list of national badminton players participating in the World Championships in Spain next month. Olympic champions Chen Yufei, Wang Yilu/Huang Dongping withdrew from the World Championships due to injuries.

The 2021 Badminton World Championships will be held in Huelva, Spain from December 12th to 19th. November 29th is the deadline for the teams to update their roster. On the same day, the Chinese Badminton Association announced the final list of entries. The announcement pointed out: According to the relevant requirements of the "Notice of the General Office of the State Sports General Administration on Further Doing a Good Job in the Selection of International Sports Events" and the "Methods for the Selection of Athletes for the Badminton World Championships in 2021", combined with the points rankings announced by the World Badminton Federation, Through comprehensive inspection of the participating athletes' competition performance, mental outlook, physical fitness and training, after research, it is planned to form a list of athletes participating in the 2021 Badminton World Championships and make public announcements.

This year's World Championships CHINA won four full seats in the women's singles and men's doubles. In women's singles, the Olympic champion Chen Yufei did not appear on the list due to injury, and was replaced by Zhang Yiman. The other three were He Bingjiao, Wang Zhiyi, and Han Yue. According to Guoyu singles coach Xia Xuanze and Chen Yufei themselves, in a recent training session, she accidentally sprained her right ankle, so she had no choice but to withdraw from the World Championships.

In the men's doubles, the four pairs of the Chinese team are He Ji Ting/Tan Qiang, Liu Cheng/Huang Kaixiang, Zhang Nan/Ou Huangyi, Di Zijian/Wang Chang.

In the men's singles event, Chen Long and Shi Yuqi were absent. The men's singles "post-00" teenager Li Shifeng who participated in this year's Sudirman Cup and Tang You Cup was selected. He will join hands with Lu Guangzu and Zhao Junpeng. The three pairs of women's doubles are Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan, Zheng Yu/Li Wenmei, Liu Xuanxuan/Xia Yuting. In the mixed doubles event, Wang Yilu/Huang Dongping, the double champions of the Tokyo Olympics and the Shaanxi National Games, also withdrew from the World Championships due to fatigue and injury in the previous consecutive battles. Ou Xuanyi/Feng Xueying, who was invited by the World Badminton Federation to participate, was selected for the list, and the other two pairs participated. The contestants are Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong, Guo Xinwa/Zhang Shuxian. (Week round/text)

It is a pity for her to last minute withdraw from World Championship. Come back stronger CYF, kudos to CBA for making sure their athletes wellness first before decide the entry list for the championship. Cant imagine if the athletes have force to compete despite their poor condition and injury, it will worsen their condition and performance. Just focus on recovery and come back stronger. There are so much important tournaments next year.

Going to be really tough to medal this year in MS, WS and MD.

At least they have quite a bit of rest until the WCs (if the tournament won't be cancelled).

Looking forward to seeing ZSW/HYQ and especially ZN back in action after such a long time.

According to Xia Xuanze, vice chairman of the Chinese Badminton Association and head coach of the Chinese Badminton Team's singles, Chen Yufei went to Chengdu Shuangliu Training Base to participate in training after 21 days of isolation, and injured his right ankle during a training session. Out of health and protection considerations, Chen Yufei withdrew from this World Championships.

Yeah, Zhang Yiman deserves special mention for the way she acquitted herself at the ongoing World Championships 2021, performing like a top 10 or even 5 ranked player in the world, esp the manner in which she disposed of Intanon Ratchanok in the QFs followed by a well-fought close-match encounter with the redoubtable Akane Yamaguchi before bowing out by the identical score of 21-19.

Like I said in the tournament thread, I think Zhang Yiman may well be a late bloomer, at age 24 now and playing her best badminton thus far and showing unmistakable signs of a breakout. Hope to see her following Zhang Ning's footsteps and rises steadily to ascend the heights henceforth as she reaches maturity.

At the moment, I feel she still has some loose ends to tie up and she'd be good to go in taking on the top echelon players more consistently going forward.

Well done, ZYM. Keep it up. Way to go !

ZYM was known as one of the "script writers" who can go from challenging top players to losing to lesser players in unpredictable, dramatic fashions.

At 24 years young, she is at a critical stage of her career. She can either challenge for a spot at the Paris Olympics or be pushed out by the new crop of young players.

In just two matches at the WC, ZYM made a name for herself and may have saved her a spot on the National Team. However, there are still a lot of questions to be answered. The next few tournaments will be very interesting to see which direction this talented player will be heading.

I don’t see an easy road for her, mostly due to internal competition. Chen Yufei, He Bingjiao and Wang Zhiyi are clearly ahead of her atm. It would be very difficult to qualify for Paris.

CYF is on her own. The best ZYM can hope for is to join the other two in a fight for the second spot.

First thing first, she must prove her WC performance is not a fluke with some strong results in the coming tournaments.

I have never seen Zhang Yiman play. First impression is that she has very good all-around skills, better than Han Yue, maybe on par with He Bingjiao and Wang Zhiyi. Very curious to see her improvements in the near future.
I remember seeing Yang Yang long time ago, a very nervous and maybe lacking in confidence. A few months later the same Yang Yang emerged as a confident player, some say it was Hou Jiachang the main culprit for the change.

Saw that, the just concluded WS world title bout with Akane Yamaguchi wresting the crown from Tai Tzu Ying who actually performed worse than Zhan Yiman going by the score and how they played?

Personally, I'm looking forward to see how Zhang Yiman would fare in the opening season next year - really wish to see her become a quintessential late bloomer and be counted among the best of the best in good time, emulating her illustrious senior, Zhang Ning.

He Jiting/Tan Qiang may have progressed to the Finals of the WC'21, a huge surprise, actually, but, personally, I don't find them a really good pair , doubt they have the potential to go far. Just feel their body language is not positive, esp HJT's, and they just don't click very well, in my opinion.

I'd say it's not unreasonable to split this pair, after all, Liu Yuchen, and ,I believe, Zhang Nan too are looking for a new partner.

By this logic, Wang Zhiyi should be credited as well as she came so close to defeat ASY, who went on to lose to AY in 3 games (and who knows maybe ASY would have won if not stretched to limit by WZY).

I think ASY is the measuring stick these days. AY is on par with her as shown by their recent epic 5-match mini-series. By this logic, Chen Yufei is leading the pack with her dominating record against ASY. And Wang Zhiyi has showed me that she belongs to the top tier with her WC match. And He Bingjiao has been solid and is also known to be effective against compatriots. So I still think it’s hard for ZYM to fight her way into the fold. And what does this leave Han Yue, GAO Fangjie.., the like? The best hope is for China starts to play in more tournaments so that all players have a chance to break out.
