Help with Stroke Please!!

Hey Mason. I just looked at your badminton smash footwork. Your forehand side rearcourt footwork is wrong. Look at 2:12, if you pause the video when you start the movement you should notice that you are looking sideways. Try to have a sideways stance, but always look forward. If you then pause at around 2:14 right before you jump, notice how you are almost turned almost entirely away from the net. Again you should be facing forward but with a sideways stance, if that makes sense. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for catching that , I think you’ll notice in my new vidoes I have tried to fixed that problem

Ive done 16 days in a row of badminton footwork. I think once i can get back to the club to play i will be much better!! Here is my most recent training

For the backhand front net, i would skip a step back before turning my racket foot back to the square position. This is to make it possible to do a net kill or retrieve a net shot.

I’m not sure I know what you mean ....can you be more specific or show me a video ?

Much better! Next I would focus on your "kill", you should aim to land with your foot just as you hit the shuttle. Right now it seems your foot kind of lands shortly after or without utilizing any of the potential power there is in that motion, so when landing with the foot as you hit the shuttle, it will be easier to generate power and also give you a faster recovery. Fast improvement already, so keep it up.

Played ok last night. My strings went near the end and they were definitely lacking in power throughout the night. There was a huge difference once I switched to a better racket with good swings

I was a little bit more relaxed but I need to work on my lunges and get my foot pointing in the correct direction. I have some training ideas to make it part of muscle memory
In this video I can see the body flow much more fluid compare to the previous video uploaded on 10 August.

With the latest training on footwork, surely your court game can become more smooth.

Dont forgot to have fun thou, here is spiderman playing badminton

Well we are able to Start up badminton again... after a 3 months shutdown

I played with very skilled group it players , one player was a former National player in the 90s. Needless to say they whooped me as I was not used to that kind of speed in tbt game. They exposed much of my weakness but at least I was able to play again
Here were my better shots from the night

Also here is a game that I was able to play with the former National player

Wait what lol, S players? Where?
Your opponents look like the garden variety B/C players with S game reading skills maybe.
You have improved a crap ton given you played little to no time compared to most people. I would not jump smash for now, you're losing too much position after you smash. Think you're ready for tournaments (when they come back).

The S class was a joke lol

I know I really shouldn’t jump smash but I love it too much to stop:D

If you do, make sure they're of good quality... that is, tighter to the net to get a steeper angle. And target should be better, that is, cross body or racket shoulder/hip.

Yeah good points !

Second day back, played much better but I was playing with players who were less skilled. I felt like I was more relaxed and my split step was a bit more consistent

any suggestions as usual would be appreciated.

I also changed my YouTube name to “Buffalo Badminton” as I live in Buffalo New York

You need to be more stable on your landings, both front and rear court. As the landing is unstable, it will make your recovery much slower so make sure that every time you hit, your landing is steady, recovery will be faster and strokes will me more precise
I agree !

Is there a reason why neither of you are pushing each other to the back?

Is it because at the professional level, the game is more flat?

I am not sure why he wasn’t pushing me to the back, normally he does. I think probably because he was tired and also I was trying to intercept his rear pushes

I felt like I was able to push him to the rear a little more so than usual

Well, I don't really see either of you being pushed to be standing in the rear tramlines ever to .receive a shot.

I don't know if maybe that's because the dynamic is a bit different when starting with a low serve, or because you are both trying to play a flatter game, or both or maybe some other reason.

Well my intent was to to push him to the back of the court. I’m just not good hahaha
