jumping smashes have not worked very well for me in the past, I would miscalculate the jump and end up missing the birdie,.

    I'm getting better though.

You'll get used to it. How do you jump? Do you jump with legs straight or curled?

If you still cant do it, why not try a lil hop smash. You can generate more power than your regular smash, but not get as good as an angle as a jump smash. It's like a switch step i think, put your weight on the back and bring it forward while doing a lil hop.

Joseph, isn't that just a scissor-kick smash then?? cuz u scissor kick for more power in the smash, right?

I usually jump with my legs straight, not straight as a ruler, but just enough to be considered straight.

does anyone have any tips on how I should time my jump. I usually jump when the shuttle is high in the air (thus the "jump") and a little bit in front of me, since everytime I hit it when it's right over top of me the hit goes up. I make contact with the shuttle still a little in front of me. when I do hit it it turns out to be a pretty good smash.

I only prefer to jump smash at around the middle of the court and where the bird isn't going up so high. The back I seem to screw up alot due to timing and power and there's a major difference when I smash at the bag my just getting more angle rather than jumping. I love to jump smash at the net after a return on a smash that rises above the net.

I usually like you smash when the bird is high, gives the shot a steeper angle.

    ideal jumpsmash?

my style of jump smash is to get the correct timing, racket's grip on the back of the head, right hand in motion (for left handed players) usually in front of my head, half-folded,
left front foot lift my body to jump, then smash... and hoping not to miss the bird.

    my question is :
is my jump smash style correct? (although some people had their own style's)
do i need to fold my legs after i jump? some people do, but my leg's are straight when i jump. what is the point of having legs fold after the jump?

On another note, do you guys arch your body when you smash? Does that seem automatic for you or do you have to work on it. Also, did you see any improvements doing it? :)

I arch my body when I smash, which is why my feet are a little bit bent when I do
