Sadly, what a time to be struck by a career-threatening (luckily not life-threatening) disease. There's really little time left for the 'aged' LCW, after a two-month therapy, he'd require at least another six months or more to get back into shape.

Nothing less than a superhuman effort and tremendous willpower is needed to resume where he left off. We can only wish him all the very best.

The thing is we still don’t know what respiratory illness he is being treated for. It all depends on what it is. But it seems pretty serious... I don’t want to say or think it’s a career ending injury like this article above is emphasizing a little bit too much but it is definitely coming at the wrong time for a 35 years old athlete.

Interesting why he has to go to TW for treatment? Why not MAS?

So I heard that LCW withdrew from the WC because of his illness.

Seems like bad things happen to LCW when he gets Brice Leverdez as his draw. Brice Leverdez is like a really bad luck charm for LCW.

Even if he fully recovers from this illness, another year will have passed before LCW gets another chance at the WC. I'm surprised that he has played so well for his age. But unfortunately for him, he can't escape his age. His recovery time will get worse between matches, and his stamina will get worse too. While Lin Dan is a shell of his former self and is probably beatable these days, LCW would have to face Momota, who is the younger version of Lin Dan.

According to this chinese article http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2018-07-30/doc-ihfxsxzh8648877.shtml, it's reported that a Singapore 'New Straits Times' reporter cum well-known sports blogger, Sha Waxing, has divulged on his social media: " Lee Chong Wei already responded on WhatsApp denying his retirement."

The blogger, Sha Waxing also revealed:" At the moment, LCW needs rest, we should respect his privacy and not make meaningless speculations. Besides, LCW's manager has already denied that he's gone to Taiwan for treatment."

Replace 'probably' with 'very' to remain factual ;)

Wish LCW a speedy and full recovery. Glad to hear he's not going to retire as I believe he can still create history despite his age. He's not done yet, uh uh!

From this Chinese article (Sina Sports news) dated 14 Aug'18 http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2018-08-14/doc-ihhtfwqq6573770.shtml

According to the Malaysian press, BAM's MS chief coach Misbun Sidek has revealed in an interview that Lee Chong Wei is not giving up, he's yet to realize his Olympic dream. He believes LCW will overcome his sickness and resume training.

LCW in response to Misbun's (phone) greetings and expressions of concern replied, " Coach, don't worry, I'm fine, shouldn't be a problem."

In addition, Misbun also stated, the Tokyo Olympics is close to two years away, LCW can continue to pursue his Olympic dream, so long as he takes good care of his health and carry on training like before.
