Yeah, I'm getting that blank page too when I click on the 'latest results' link to the Malaysian Open. I'm not terribly concerned as WorldBadminton.net usually has a delay in delivering results. I doubt there is an official website for the Open, but I guess there is a delay as results have to be relayed to WorldBadminton.net for the eventual posting of results...

    well qualifying rounds are over.
some qualifiers had to play 2 games to get into the main draw.
as you know mostly are malaysians. only three are foreigners at this stage. notable entries include former malaysian open men's single champion james chua. not sure if he's through though. will try to update when i get news from friends on site ;)

tomorrow should be more interesting where young upstarts from the qualifiers may cause upsets?????? who knows.

Gosh, because of Euro 2004, I had been away from badminton for a while, knowing that Malaysia Open is coming, spending more time at the "Euro Football Championships 2004" thread than here! ;)

I will be back next week, comrades.

I just read this thread and being and being form Kuantan originally, I'll try answer some of the questions posed here...

    From Thestar online:

    TODAY’S PROGRAMME
    9.00am: Qualifying tournament.
    11.00am: Men’s singles first round.
    1.15pm: Mixed doubles first round.
    5.00pm: Men’s singles second round.
    6.30pm: Women’s doubles first round.
    8.45pm: Men’s doubles first round.

Someone was asking where the hall is, I read that it will be in Indra Mahkota which is about 10 minutes (north) of Kuantan town. Landmark? The racecourse is the closest thing I can think of.

No sign of a webpage. Perhaps someone with decent background can contact BAM and make them a proposal to do the web pages for competions in Malaysia in the future... now that'd be a good idea.

    Hope that helps.

Chinese players are the ones to beat, says Lin DanKUANTAN: Call it arrogance or just plain confidence. But when world number Lin Dan speaks his mind, you have to take notice.

Like when he was asked which singles player he dreaded playing the most in a tournament, Lin Dan said that no player outside China was capable of beating him at the moment.

Having chalked up an impressive record of only one defeat in a run stretching more than 30 matches since October last year, he should know what he is talking about.

Since losing 4-15, 4-15 in the German Open final in September 2003 to South Korean Lee Hyun-il, the 21-year-old has won the Hong Kong Open, China Open, Swiss Open and the All-England Championships as well as staying unbeaten in the first singles throughout China’s successful Thomas Cup qualifiers and Finals campaign.

The only blot in his resume was the 13-15, 10-15 semi-final loss to compatriot Bao Chunlai in the Japan Open in April.

“Judging from the way the Chinese shuttlers are playing at the moment, I can safely say that we are the ones to beat in every competition,†said Lin Dan, who is the top seed in the ongoing Malaysian Open badminton championships here, in a rare interview with the Malaysian press yesterday.

“In fact, the motivation to do well in the Malaysian Open is great as China’s Olympic line-up has yet to be named and this is everybody’s last chance to impress the coaches.â€

Lin Dan and Chen Hong are tipped to be included for Athens, with the third singles ...slot a toss-up between Xia Xuanze and Bao Chunlai.

Lin Dan attributes his success to discipline and sacrifices made since childhood.

The shuttler, who hails from the Fujian district, has not returned home to visit his parents for the past five years.

“I train in Beijing and am constantly on the move to compete in tournaments. I only get to meet my parents once a year when they make a short trip to see me play in a competition in southern China.

“I used to miss them a lot, but now it is not so bad as I keep in touch with my family through SMS (Short Message Service),†explained Lin Dan, who hardly broke sweat in registering a 15-3, 15-0 first round win over Hasbullah Hafiz of Malaysia.

The win sets him up for a second round meeting against another Malaysian, Lee Tsuen Seng, today.

The two players last met in the third round of the China Open in November last year, with Lin Dan winning in straight games.

Unlike Lin Dan, Tsuen Seng has endured a year he’d rather forget.

Even the player himself admitted that his performance at the recent Thomas Cup was one of the worst in his playing career.

But Tsuen Seng comes into the Malaysian Open confident of putting up a fight against the top seed. The Malaysian defeated Spain’s Sergio Llopis 15-7, 15-4 in his first round match yesterday.

“After my disastrous performance in the Thomas Cup, I have worked hard to improve my game. I am playing with more confidence now.

“Although it will be a tall order to topple Lin Dan, I believe that I can put up a good fight, especially if I can maintain my level of play in the first roud,†said Tsuen Seng.

Many top players out in the early rounds

According to Shuyi, many top players such as Marleve Mainaky, Agus Hariyanto and of course, Boonsak Ponsana. He gave Chen Hong a good game and generally speaking, not many players can take so much points off such a composed player. And Marleve Mainaky too gave Hafiz Hashim a good game but Agus Hariyanto was easily defeated by Sony Dwi Kuncoro. I wonder what has got into him recently. He used to be among the top 10s.
