TC/UC 2008 - May 12 - day 2

Not the 1st & 2nd in a group AUTOMATICALLY qualify to QF? Had the rule changed? So means to say, if Korea lost to MAS tonite. They will play with England again to decide who will Qualify to QF??

Those who finish 2nd & 3rd go into a playoff. The winners (4 of them) then meet the group winners in the QF. Hope that's clear enough.

The lineup for Indonesia vs Germany:
MS1: Sony Dwi Kuncoro vs Marc Zweibler -- if Sony lost again, his confidence will be gone.

MD1: Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Roman Spitko/Michael Fuchs -- surprise2...GER don't want to field their top doubles Kristof Hopp/Ingo Kindervater. That would just make the work easier for the World Champion.

MS2: Taufik Hidayat vs Dieter Domke -- expect a 3-sets match if Taufik still doesn't wake up.

MD2: Candra Wijaya/Nova Widianto vs Johannes Schoetller/Tim Dettmann -- the uncles are being fielded in preparation for the QF. Straight forward tie too.

MS3: Simon Santoso vs Sven Eric Kastens -- who's the GER player  ?? Simon to win yet again.

INA to win 5-0...it will be a disgrace if INA were to even lose 1 match.

In that sense, I think PAW should only start during elimination round... since teams play tactically now...

Dude...calm yourself down and read the draw in tournamentsoftare.com. I thought madbad's explanation is clear-cut enough :o:eek::confused:

Suggestion of new format

To avoid teams 'fixing' their line-ups, they should introduce a rule that after the end of the group matches, a re-draw takes place placing all the winners of each group as the top 4 seeds in the quarterfinals (seeding based on original entry into the Cup seeding). The top 4 seeds will not be meeting one another until at least the semis).

The runners-up teams from the round robin group matches enter into a redraw to see who of the top 4 teams they will each play in the quarterfinals.

3rd team in the group round robin match gets eliminated. Also, the redraw means you don't just aim to get 2nd thinking you will avoid playing an obvious winner of another group in the quarterfinals. This way, your aim is always to finish top of the group to avoid playing China until at least the semi finals.

What do you guys think?

Too complicated... To me, a team CANNOT lost twice in a group.. If u lost twice u will rank last (3rd) in a group. And in each group (A,B,C,D), only 2 team will be qualify to Quoter final. Means, total of of 8 teams in Quoter final..

IF Korea LOST to MAS, they are LAST rank.. How can them qualify to Quoter final as well.. Someone pls clear my doubt.. tq

This is not Qualification match, but a kind of league match to make the ranks.

JUST SEE THIS:

I am clear now!! TQ... that is why MAS wan to win tonite in order to sail into QF.. No need to play extra playoff !! And MAS should be able to win Japan & storm into Semi Final.. then, have a DIE or LIVE battle with China.. Wise..wise..

As always dude...read the previous posts.....
The rule doesn't say only the top 2 will qualify for the next round

The rule says:
Each qualified team for the Final will be guaranteed at least 3 matches.
The top team in each group is through to the QF.
The second and third team in each group will play again tomorrow in a playoff, determining the 4 teams to play each group winners.

I think the system is ok, but suggest the playoff will be re-draw, so if you are second and third team in each group, the draw will randomly put you in any path, then you cannot do what S.Korea did, CHOOSE who you want to play in quarter/semi final.

KOR (if 3rd) will play a 2nd place finisher from another group. The winner moves on the QF. Same with all other group 2nd & 3rd place finishers. C'mon friend, you must have grasped it by now. :)

I think INA fans would prefer playing ENG in QF than having either KOR/MAS. So, KOR's moves saves our troubles of thinking how to best avoid the seeded teams in QF. At the same time, it will ensure the elimination of one strong team (either KOR or DEN) in the QF.

Good move.....

FULLY understand now !!! any 3rd rank will play with ANOTHER group !

I suggested this format yesterday in another thread (can't remember which one–there are so many TC threads going around), except I said to redraw after the QF to keep things random and more exciting.

So Korea again will play a lost game 2 nite?? If so, the game is not interesting already....:(

Sure it will be. You'll see doubles players playing singles and weird doubles combinations. The KOR team is out to entertain and nothing else :rolleyes::D:D

If they beat MAS 3-2, they might just got their wish of ended up 3rd. They will have the same 4-6 on ties won-lost with ENG, but ENG will finish 2nd courtesy of the victory this morning.

MAS will still ended up 1st because of their much superior record: 5-0 and 2-3 (if they lose later) of 7-3.

I am now just exploring possible permutations:
If MAS were to lose 0-5, they will surely end up second --> DROPPED

If MAS were to deliberately lose 1-4, then they will have 6-4 on their aggregate. On the other hand, KOR will have 5-5, which will edge out ENG. So, MAS can still feed KOR to INA in QF, while they still enjoyed the free match to QF --> DOABLE...

What do u guys think?
