Just wondered if you wonderful people had any thoughts on pre swinging when in defensive positions. Noticed it is something Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo does a lot and he seems to defend well, even at tournament level/county, not sure if it would have benefits to pre swing in anticipation especially if the opponent is smashing form mid court.

In defensive play, there are times when there is no time for you to wait for the opponent to make contact. Swinging early, in the direction you think the kill is coming from, is not a technique. It's desperation. But what a great feeling when you guess right! Just ask Momota. ;-)

On offense, the opponents might have been put in a situation where they really don't have much choice in return. That's when you see the front man pounce and pretty much be already swinging the put-away. (eg. Sanjaya)

Not sure that practicing "swinging early" is a big priority in training.
However, working on racket-readiness, split-step and foot-speed is. Then you are ready to move and swing as soon as the bird is struck -- then it appears as if you knew where it was going all along. :)
