They are independent players, meaning that they are not directly under the control of the Korean National Badminton Federation.

Similar case with Goh Liu Ying and Chan Peng Soon from Malaysia, who are Malaysia's best pair in the Mixed Doubles discipline but didn't play in the Sudirman Cup due to being independent players...

But I agree, having Ko/Shin and any combination of Lee Yong Dae, Kim Gi Jung and Yoo Yeon Seong would have improved their chances by quite a bit for the Thomas Cup.

(Btw, Yoo Yeon Seong and Kim Gi Jung recently won the Korean National Championships against LYD and Choi Sol Gyu in the final. Would love to see Yoo back on the international circuit, he still has the skills to play at a high level in this currently rather weak MD era)
I don't understand why yoo can't just play with LYD anymore, I remember they got back together again in US open 2019 (I think) and they lost in the final, but since that tournament they separated again

No one cares if LeeWang lost against HokiKobayashi , I think i also dont care or dont talk about it last week. But If Minions lost, pages increase by 2. Selling power or total care? I reckon.

Ko/Shin and Marcus/Kevin only met three times before, H2H 2-1 in the Minions favour but their last meeting was in 2016 ? Only 3 times they played, don't prove anything unless they met recently in a year and all three encounters in one party's favour.

thats right. one can say they also beat the Peak Ko/Shin at that time when they are relatively new pair

I don't understand it either, YYS is, at least imo, a better player than KGJ in pretty much all aspects and looked sharp during the Korean National Championships...

But it is very hard to get information from Korea over here, especially since there don't seem to be many Koreans on this forum who can (and want) to share these insights...

Yeah at their peak they struggle against old boe/moe, not to mention 6 straight loss against endo/watanabe. if they struggle against endo/wata defense what do you think gonna happen when they play koo/tan ?

There will be struggle for every pair in the world. Its up to them to overcome it. EndoWata isnt really an old pair though.Yuta is genius, but then they will lose to ShettyRR. Its differenty styles.
In the end , all that matter is the number of titles.

A pity I didn't know of these Korean players until recently when they got back to play...
I've seen Ko and his XD partner played last week and it seems she is pretty good too.

Reading the game well and playing smart winners.
No doubt they didn't win but as Gill mentioned, she was a good WD player till Korea kinda "drop" her.
Really wondering why the ferderation (of countries) will drop good players. (Same with GLY/CPS and TWK/GVS)

yeah yuta is a genius, and so was koo or lyd. the majority of pair back then were simply a bad match up for mfg/kss, I honestly doubt they could get more than 1 title a year, but hey kudos to them for taking advantage of the weak era of MD

Since all the legacy KOR MD players are independent now and can pretty much pair with whomever they want, I think Lee/Yoo not reuniting is because of a personality conflict.

During their WR1 heydays, Lee was never great at sharing the limelight with Yoo for all the hard work he did in the partnership. I think Yoo eventually just got sick of being Lee’s unheralded shadow.

If that's the reason why did they even played together again in US open 2 years ago ? it just weird to me

Not sure if KooTan or those Korea MD can beat ShettyRR though. We have seen ShettyRR beat EndoYuta easily too in 2019

so Theres never a weak era or strong era. If i have to say weak era, i d say XD is much weaker now than 5-10 years ago.

Of course they can beat them easily. How can you even think that ? First of all ShettyRR defence is not top level of this era. And if it isn't top 10 level of this era, it definitely is not top 10 level of prev era (2009-16) (not an opinion, but a fact).

Maybe but i'm really not sure. Why use the past Era to compared with current though, why not use now as the benchmark? I definitely think peak ShettyRR will denotate the defence of best pairs. They have done that against top EndoYuta.

You said all that has great defence, but AhsanHendra isnt particularly great in defence and they are still winning H2H against say Boe/Mo.

Also KooTan isnt great example, they are just lazy. maybe exist just 1-2 year, Hard to say you will have a chance to play them at that time even.
