Later, Mahishi-W requested for info on how to return Smashes. Trainees need to remember to include Footwork in our Warm-up Drills. For an effective Warm-up, we need to; * Start first with the lighter drill; the Dropshot Drill * Then increase our pace and move to the Smash Drill * When our body temperature is warmer and our heart-rate is higher, then we should move on to Random Shots Note that when we are doing our Random Shots, the concentration on our correct 'Selection of Shots' is a must. For here, we have arrived at the mental part of our training; What shot to select to perform when the shuttlecock is presented for us at different situations. Mahishi-W and Sharon-O are gradually improving in their footwork. Shoa Qi-C needs more concentration on the correct 'Selection of Shots'. Wendy-L needs more controlled and precise follow-through in her Underarm Clears, with correct grips required. Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 03-Oct-2010 (A Short Report) . Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 03-Oct-2010 (A Short Report) We worked on Warm-up Drills. Later, we moved on to play Half-Court Singles games. Trainees need to remember our correct Footwork when doing our strokes in our Warm-up Drills. We worked on 3 drills to concentrate on different strokes and footwork, namely; * Dropshot Drill We started off with a slower and lighter drill to work on Underarm Clear, Overhead Dropshot and the Bounce (Netplay) * Smash Drill We then increased our pace to work on Underarm Clear, Smash and the Block * Selection of Shots Drill We then paid attention on which is the best shot to select to play when the shuttlecock is presented for us to hit (at the various areas/situations/zones of the court). Mental part of our training is most important here. Some comments for our trainees; * Sharon-O needs to use more back muscles to generate longer Overhead Clears. * Shoa Qi-C needs to use more follow-through to gain better direction for Underarm Clears. * Mark-M needs to think "While running back to base perform the stroke, not perform the stroke and then run back to base". Wendy-L requested to worked on the "Low Service used in Doubles". Later, Sharon-O worked on the "Attacking Clear". Trainees need to remember some important points when doing the Low Service used in Doubles, namely; * Stable Footwork (Horse-riding stance is recommended) * Stand close to the Service Line (Point of Impact to be between the Service Line and the net) * Backhand Service is recommended (Correct usage of the basic Backhand grip is most important) * Point of Impact should be as high as legal (Just below the level of your lowest ribs) * Shaft of the racket cannot be horizontal (Slightly pointing down from the horizontal is best) * Better not to look at the shuttlecock when doing the Service (Like throwing dart at dart board) * Pushing the shuttlecock over the net is more accurate (and with more control) than hitting it * Service to the Middle-T is best,; the shortest trajectory/path (Give less time for receiver to react) * Serving to just short of the receiver's Service Line is best (Make the receiver hesitate) * Maintain the correct shinning the racket face (Adjust wrist when the racket head is pushed forward) * To serve longer, push the racket head further in front (A faster push can also do the job) * After performing the Low Service, be ready for a Netplay Return (Lift Return is for your partner behind you) There are many other points that I have instructed you all, but they are not as important as those listed above.
