The Li-Ning Singapore Open, which begins on Tuesday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, has been hit by a string of player withdrawals.
A total of 10 new withdrawals were announced during a team managers' meeting at Swissotel the Stamford on Monday.
Among them:
Indonesian men's singles players Simon Santoso, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka, women's singles players Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand and P.V. Sindhu of India, as well as China's women's doubles pair and top seeds Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang.
This comes after the withdrawal of China's badminton superstar Lin Dan, who announced earlier this month that he would be giving the week-long tournament a miss.
(It seems the Singapore Open suffers from the tight BWF scheduling. It comes closely after the completion of the Thailand Open GPG and the just concluded Indonesian Open SSP. Being the most highly prized tournament in terms of value, the Indonesian Open attracted most of the best players and some of them, especially those that are mentioned in this report, may be too fatigued or injured to play in the Singapore Open.
Let's hope those who are featured wil give us a good show.
