You can visit San Gabriel Valley Badminton Club and go to the back courts to watch all the coach teaching the students. The first court you see in the back will be Alex Liang. I would highly recommend you take a lesson with Alex. Alex is from China and was previously on the China National Team. You will learn alot from Alex.
For more info, you can visit http://www.e-badmintonusa.com/AlexLiang.html
It has all the info, directions and how to reserve court times for the lesson.

Why not get the shoes at SGVBC? you can try it on and get a feel for it.
    Highly recommend it.
If you order it online and the size is not right, you'll waste time and money to exchange it.

Well, we had a minor clash, Adam (our opponent) hit a good smash near the middle and we both went for the return and clashed rackets. It happens. :p

Yes, I think the Woven 6 is more suited for you, it's a very good racket. :)

Regarding badminton stuff, you have lots of options...I'll IM you.

i think we might be at the same level... i'm sort of beginner/intermediate as well. i played in high school on the team and then a bit at Mt. SAC... but then i havne't played in over 5 years. i recently started playing again, i'm rusty... but i'm hoping the more i play then the faster i can improve.

i play sometimes on tuesdays and saturdays with friends, but i'm looking to play more days... so if you or anyone else around my skill level are looking to play... let me know. so if it's any other day except tue or saturday, and u wanna play, PM me and we can arrange a time and way to meet up there.

i read on someone else's post that the middle courts are for intermediate players. is it easy to just show up and get in a game? or do you pretty much have to come with friends?

The only time you can get in for free is when the Pro Shop is closed. That varies from 1am to 3 - 4am; or early morning, before 7am. :p

    True..

..the time mentioned is likely the most ideal...;)
..piggybacking on what DinkAlot wrote, sometimes even when the Pro Shop is still closed, there could be a fella who "patrols" the place and check if you're a member or not. If you're not, he'll charge you for it. It happened to me once, it was around 9-10am in the morning, i thought i could play w/out paying, but the fella still caught me "red-handed"(even when the Pro Shop was still closed)..hehe:p :( :D ;)

will we know if it is a person who owns the place or something? or just some random stranger who has been impersonating one and is just looking for some unsuspecting victims?

    To answer your query...

..i, personally, do not know his name nor remember how he looks like(since it's been a while), sorry:p..All i can tell you is that he's a middle-aged gentleman that also plays regularly but mostly during the day..Perhaps our NGP/DinkAlot can better answer your queries(ie. his name, how he looks like)..;)
