Thomas Cup Qualifiers Indonesia,Korea,Japan,India Denmark,England,Netherlands Nigeria Canada New Zealand Uber Cup Qualifiers Korea,Hong Kong,Japan,Thailand Denmark,Netherlands,Germany Canada Nigeria Australia
TC: i guess Taipe will be the dark horse..., India can slip UC: thai top players already withdrawn...so i guess the 3rd or the 4th country would be Indonesia
In TC, Asia qualifies 4 teams In UC, Asia qualifies 3 teams This is before the lucky loser is decided
The question is, where TC Korea will be drawn ? on India or Taipei place ? If Korea drawn in India group, India will out. If Korea drawn in Taipei group, Taipei will out.
btw how many groups will it be drawn into ?? 2 or 4 ?? the seeded: THOMAS CUPS 1 INDONESIA 2 JAPAN 3 INDIA 4 CHINESE TAIPEI >> if divided into 2 groups, so group A :INA, IND, XXX, XXX, XXX, XXX >> if one of this XXX~KOR, IND will be out group B :JAP, TPE, XXX, XXX, XXX, XXX >> if one of this XXX~KOR, TPE will be out but dont forget one lucky loser >>> it may be IND UBER CUPS 1 KOREA 2 JAPAN 3 INDONESIA 4 HONG KONG >>> dont have any idea

In both.. ..TC & UC, Asia only qualifies for 3 spots/teams. 1 last spot, in both events, will likely go to an Asian country (since they all have higher world team rankings).
^^Hmm..^^ ..looks like they changed the rules as stated here: http://internationalbadminton.org/file_download.aspx?id=11645 (TC & UC). 3 qualifying teams, per event, for Asia. So, that means 4 TC qualifying teams, not including CHN & MAS? And 3 qualifying teams, not including CHN & MAS? Asia could represent 7 TC teams and 6 UC teams (incl. the last spot, for both events)..
For Asia & Europe Qualifying, 3 TC 3 UC, one team Play Off 4th team of Asia & Europe Copied from BWF Website : The preliminary rounds of the Thomas and Uber Cup competitons (Asian Zone) wil be hosted by the Asian Badminton Association of Thailand from 21 - 28 February 2010 in Nakornratchasima, Thailand. In Malaysia all 5 continents will be represented with an unprecedented 12 teams playing in both the men's and ladies events. Asia has been allocated five places in the Finals for both Thomas and Uber Cups championship. China the holder of the cup and Malaysia as host will automatically qualify ) 3 places from Europe , 1 Pan Am, 1 Oceania Africa 1 and the last place to be determine between Europe and Asia using the Thursday 4 March WR.
it's clear that Asia will qualify 3 countries for both TC and UC and 1 lucky looser is probably from Asia too..
There is a way how to pick up the 4th spot (both TC & UC) for Europe: if Denmark finish the 4th in European preliminaries...
..to be pondered some more.. ..the explanation given by BWF website is clear and echoes with the BWF rules. However, the explanation given by the Thai official (on 1st page) is still unclear/not jiving with the BWF rules.. ..ehm, not quite. If DEN finish in 4th place, they still won't make it if INA finish in 4th place for TC Asia prelims and either HK, KOR, JPN, INA & IND or THA finish in 4th place for UC Asia prelims..
Tough for depleted South Korea in qualifiers In the draw released by the Badminton Asian Confederation (BAC) yesterday, South Korea are in Group D with Japan and Laos in the Asia Zone qualifying tournament, which will be held at Nakhon Ratchasima in Thailand from Feb 22-28. South Korea will be without the service of Lee Yong-dae in the men’s doubles and their trump card will only be Park Sung-hwan in the men’s singles. The others singles players in the team are greenhorns Shon Wan-ho, Kim Sa-rang and Choi Jo-jin. Their doubles shuttlers are Kim Ki-jung, Ko Sung-hyun, Yoo Yeon-seong, Hwang Ji-man and Jung Jae-sung. Japan, who have showed some steady improvement in their singles and doubles departments over the last one year, can certainly take advantage of the situation. http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2010/2/12/sports/5664100&sec=sports
U gotta be kidding me..thestar Just because they dont have lee yong dae in the squad, that does not mean they will get a tough road enroute to the final of the thomas cup come on, they still have choi ho jin ok? who defeated lin dan in 2 sets before
2nd Stage Asia Qualifying TC 1st Group A v 2nd Group C 1st Group B v 2nd Group D 2nd Group A v 1st Group C 2nd Group B v 1st Group D UC 1st Group X v 2nd Group Y 2nd Group X v 1st Group Y
Time to forge ahead..with or without Sundae Lee.. *thanks for the news.. ..from the lineup, i know not many will give these young KOR players a chance. But i feel they are doing the right approach by sending and exposing their young players. The goal for them, in the TC prelims, is just to qualify for the Final Rd., not so much to win the overall place. In a way, this will serve as a preparation/tune up round & they'll be able to gauge their strengths and weaknesses and fix any problems that arise, before the real deal in KL. Best of luck to them and hope LYD will recover in time to join the final TC squad. Btw, anyone knows if teams could alter/replace the players when the Final Rd. commences? Or they have to stick with the same players?
